Presentation transcript:

Language Arts: Monday 1-14 I.N. 5 In your I.N. page 5, answer the following questions... What is a headline? What do you think makes a good headline? What is the headline for your article? When you finish, update your I.N. for this week and copy down the agenda for the week.

Language Arts: Monday 1-14 I.N. 5 With your table group, you will rotate around the room to other tables to read an article. When you finish reading the article, decide together what would be a good headline. Each person should record their answer in their I.N. Be sure to label what story number it is, so we can look back on them. Everyone must participate in reading. You must read the entire article to determine the headline. At the end, we will find out the real headlines and see how close your answers were.

Language Arts: Monday 1-14 I.N. 5 When you read each of the actual headlines and their writer’s purpose for them, record the headline in your I.N. then answer the following question... Do you agree with the headline that the writer chose? Why or why not? Label each story number with your response. HOMEWORK: come up with a new headline for your article that is catchy, has a short subject and verb, and doesn’t just say the topic. Write it on the very top of I.N. page 6.

Language Arts: Tuesday 1-15 I.N. 6 Turn in your green textbook to page 685: Complete Exercise 1-2 (#1-10 for both) in your I.N. page 6. While you work, I will be coming around to check your new headline and give you homework points for your bellwork from yesterday. When you finish, you have time to read an independent reading book silently. We will go over the answers when everyone is finished.

Language Arts: Tuesday 1-15 I.N. 6 Green Textbook page 159. With your table you will read “The Body’s Defenses” and answer the questions throughout the text, #1-7. Then answer the “First Thoughts on Your Reading” questions on the top of page 162. This is homework if you do not finish.

Language Arts: Wednesday 1-16 I.N. 7 BELLWORK: What is the purpose of a picture within a news article? (Answer in at least three complete sentences) For tomorrow, you will be able to select a picture to add to your printed article. What kind of picture would support your article the best?

Language Arts: Wednesday 1-16 I.N. 7 Draw a chart like the one on the board. Label each of the 5 W’s and How. As we pass our I.N.s and articles, everyone must add at least three ideas to each other’s charts. HOMEWORK: Re-write your article without looking at your first draft. HANDWRITE your article. We will type it tomorrow. You must have 2 handwritten drafts that look different in order to be able to get on the computer tomorrow. ***REMEMBER: 3rd Person, No Opinions, Include ALL the details, and write like a newspaper.

THURSDAY In the TLC typing our news article.

Language Arts: Friday 1-18
