A-dec 500 INSTALLATION Good morning everyone and Welcome to our Installation Tips and Checklist presentation. This information is presented as “tips” which we hope will assist you in assembling the new A-dec 500 Series equipment. We put this presentation together from gremlins conducted here and from feedback from the field installations that have been completed. The Checklist is included as the last page of the Installation Instruction. We anticipate that using the checklist will ensure the A-dec 500 package has been correctly installed, adjusted and that its operation has been explained to the staff.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Be familiar with the all-in-one Installation Instructions 86.0400.00 Retain with equipment or for future Numbered boxes: Indicate the sequence of installation Allow you to stage equipment Inventory the modules before starting the install Full size templates are available parts book p.2: A-dec 500 Product 86.0904.00 511 Chair 86.0905.00 Floor box 85.0472.00 Checklist Review Be familiar with the Installation Instructions, show it to class Numbers used to: Show the box contents and order of installation Up to 10 modules so you know what you are installing to follow the guide easily Inventory what you have to install by noting the box numbers, then follow the numerical sequence in the instructions. You could stage some boxes outside, in the van or ? Anyway , they could remain out of your way while you work. Exceptions: Box 4, the floor box will be in box 4 which will be inside the front mount box 2 if a delivery system is being installed. On the outside of box 2, there will be two part numbers if there is a delivery system included. If no delivery system is included, then the floor box 4 will be separate or with the cuspidor. Box 3 can be either the delivery system or the front mount monitor mount

Ratchet wrench set (3/8” drive & extensions) Electric power driver with bits Chapman tool set Ball peen hammer Taps and T handle Paint was found to sometimes prohibit screws from starting, so you may need to scrape or tap the holes. Paper towels to clean up after using Lubriplate. Cable ties to secure tubing bundles away from the Pots and to dress data cables into neat coils.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Be familiar with the Legris air tubing connectors Ensure end is cut square Push into connector fully Pull on tubing to check grip on tubing To release tubing from connector, push on outer ring while pulling tubing out Leave service length to avoid side loading the fitting which could create an air leak Currently used only on the new 5/16” size air tubing connections. Feb 04: due to reliability issues: This PCA improves the reliability of 1/8 inch air connections on the A-dec 500 Utilities Manifold by replacing the 1/8" Legris push-in fittings with 1/8" barbs. This is done with a new utilities manifold (38.1813.00) designed for the 1/8" barbs and addresses all where-used of the Legris push-in fittings, except for a service kit that contains only Legris fittings. The Legris fittings and the service Kit will stay in the Baan system. They will be used after addressing the connection reliability issues. Be familiar with the Legris tubing connectors 1. Ensure end is cut evenly, your side cutters will work, just cut square 2. Push into connector fully Pull on tubing to check grip on tubing 3. To release tubing from connector, push on outer ring while pulling tubing out

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Chair (Box 1) About the same size as Cascade Chair box measures 48”L x 30”W x 31”H Base plate is 26 3/4” W x 34 ½” L Heavier by 100 lbs Weight – 400 lbs (packaged) Use assistance to move Two people recommended Dolly or hand truck Field eval noted how heavy and difficult for one person to move. It may be best to unpack the chair outside the op or building. Two installers would be best, I know the field techs go it alone many times but we should stress that two would be better especially the first time or two. The base is 26 ¾” x 34 ½”, the current chair base is 26 ¾” x 33 ½”.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Chair on Furniture Dolly Furniture dolly could be used to move the chair Leave the two shipping straps in position Remove motor pump cover to prevent damage to it Tip chair forward off pallet and onto the seat frame ends Strap dolly to the chair baseplate Lower dolly and chair You could try this method, especially if only one person available. Be careful of the motor pump cover, and the power cord plug; damage could occur to cover so remove it. To get the chair upright, while it is on the pallet, tip it toe end first off the pallet then keep tipping it up until you have it resting on the seat frame ends – it would be a good idea to protect these painted ends with rags taped on them. You also need to have good balance of the chair on the hand truck.

Moving the chair Chair Lifter Tools Support Link Handle NEW Bolts to support link mount No P/N as yet Seat Frame Handle Schedule 80 PVC Slides over seat frame NEW Jan 06: This PCA releases a 40" long Chair Shipping Strap (61.2237.01) for use on the 511 dental chair to facilitate the use of the 90.1131.00 and 90.1132.00 Chair Moving Tools (specifically the new Seat Frame Handle) which aids in moving and position the chair during installation.  Two of the 61.2237.01 straps replaces the 53.5" shipping strap (61.2237.00) near the seat frame to adequately secure the seat frame so it can be used as a lift point for the chair.  This change is being driven by the 511 Chair Weight Quality Project. Ref: PCA 05096 released the 90.1131.00 and 90.1132.00 moving tools MarComm Note:  This change affects the 86.0400.00 A-dec 500 Install Guide. Jan 06:This PCA releases 2 tools for A-dec 511 chair to aid in the moving and placing the chair in the field.  The 90.1131.00 Seat Frame Handle attaches to the chair seat frame The 90.1132.00 Support Link T handle attaches to the support link at the rear of the chair.  Both tools allow installers a more positive way of grasping the front and back of the chair for easier moving and placement. Jan 06: Domestic Distribution Plan Initial distribution of the chair lifter bars (P/N 90.1125.00) began on December 5, and the last shipment left December 23. The lifter bars were sent directly to the TMs so they could distribute the lifter bars to the appropriate dealer personnel. We shipped two lifter bars per dealer install team to the TM. Oct 2005: This PCA releases 2 new Kits; Magic Sliders and Magnet Kit (90.1124.00) and A-Dec 511 Chair Lifter Bar Kit (90.1125.00).  Also being released on this PCA is the component parts that make up these new kits.  The kits have been designed to move the heavy A-dec 511 dental chairs with the "Magic Sliders". Bar kit incl: bar, sliders, magnets, inst card. 90.1124.00 incl: 4 sliders, 4 magnets. Lever: Width: 3” (7.6mm),Thickness: ¼” (6mm),Length: 14 ½” (37mm)

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Full product dimensions are in the Equipment Catalog 511 chair template available, order 86.0905.00 Chair should be bolted to floor Anchor kit 62.0193.00 included Install Guide page 3 April 05: This PCA increases the anchoring hole size from 0.531 in the A-Dec 511 chair baseplate.  To allow concrete anchor stud to drop through the hole in the baseplate.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Chair Shipping pin has tag to locate it Release the swivel brake if the pin is difficult to pull out Can be left in place to lock out chair swivel if desired Retain for future use or chair movement. Bags tied to chair for pin and straps. Power Air/electric switch connection for Master ON/OFF ON/OFF button for visual indication of mains power “Glove Box” – bags are used for keeping swivel pin and shipping straps. Rocker switch – pilot air source for cycling mains power. Allowing the doctor to control power from the control head power source toggle. If the doctor does not want this feature, the air/electric switch can be plugged. However, an error message will appear stating that there are too many handpieces are out.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Chair 3 Tap Feature Label on base plate Be patient Chair has a soft start feature so it seems slow to start moving (down) Look for the relay LED on the PCB PCB has test points to operate chair if needed. Note: this will disable the 3 tap feature but it can be re enabled by cycling mains power This is similar to the way the current chairs work too, but now the back can be cycled too. These taps haven’t always worked so try again or reach your finger up along the right side to actuate the mechanism itself. Times out after 5 min, Once a touchpad or footswitch connected it no longer operates chair. Also, if you use the test points header on the chair board, the three tap feature is disabled. The soft start feature may make you think the chair is not working, be patient and look for the LEDs to come on down at the chair board. They indicate things are working. Page 162 in the student workbook has a photo of the chair pcb.

A-dec 500 Installation Tips Front Mount (Box 2) Locate hardware kit Install the Leveling Cam Raise back up Raise seat frame up Install 2 button head leveling cam screws finger tight Install the 2 leveling studs until only 2 – 3 threads left Front Mount First find the hardware kit: Cam, 2 button head screws, 2 leveling studs and washers Mount and rigid arm are pre assembled Position the back full up: Install cam, leveling studs Rough level the front mount Secure cam, Tip assembly down, then up to allow mount to hook over the cam Rough level only at this time

Front Mount Installation Front Mount (Box 2) The back needs to be full down or the mount will not go on Tip assembly up to allow mount to hook over the cam Rough level the front mount at this time using the cam and the 2 leveling studs Secure the leveling stud flanged washers Run in the 2 stabilizing screws against the upper structure. Changed to grade 5 from grade 2 Oct ’04. Front Mount Mount and rigid arm are pre assembled. Tip assembly down, hook it over the cam, then let it down to rest on chair structure. Rough level only at this time. This PCA upgrades Hex Head Screw (005.162.00) from SAE Grade 2 to Grade 5.   The Grade 2 screw has been shown to bend during normal use.   Normal use includes positioning the chair by lifting the toe of the chair using the front Unit Mounting Arm.   This maneuver can bend the screws.    Grade 5 screws will make the design more robust and prevent the bending exhibited by the Grade 2 screw.  When leveling, the hooks do not have to be fully contacted with the cam. Only one side needs to have contact.

Water Bottle on Front Mount Box 4 is in Box 2 if Delivery System is ordered Water bottle Floor box and utilities Chair air/water manifold Install the Cap Housing Hole plug pops out easily when loosened from the bottom Start button head cap screw for housing Slide the housing down over the cap screw and tighten the screw Route tubing through arm and retaining boss Trim air and water tubing and connect to chair air/water manifold With a delivery system to mount on the front, the water bottle can be mounted now on the front mount rigid arm. Step one is to remove the hole plug, pry up from the bottom part to release it from the hole Then start the button head screw into the threaded hole Feed the tubing through the hole and down the arm, through the retaining boss and lay in lift arm Now mount the cap housing to the post sliding it down onto the button head screw, then tighten it. Lube the o-ring in the cap with the lube from the kit – Silicone only! Note, if you need to lengthen the water tubing: This PCA releases 023.814.00 (INLINE BARB) to EID and SID for production, to extend 5/16th inch water lines.

Lower chair to a good work height for you. First lube the post then drop on the thrust washer. Mount the control head on the post, then the stop ring and snap ring then push tubing down through the post and arm to the floor box. The snap ring keeps the flex arm installed. Be careful of the cable ends laying on the floor or getting caught. The data and video cable ends can be damaged.

Support Link Stop Switch Stop switch assembly (Kit 43.0087.00) Modify if Lower Arm is to be installed Make electrical connection at chair stop switch Mount lower arm to support link Bearings for top and bottom are Teflon, no lube required Tighten up on the lower arm set screw adjustment to level If only attaching the support link, use the short tube. If installing an assistance package, configure the longer tubing. The support link stop switch has a bump up feature if the arm comes in contact with an object. It will move up a short distance, not a timed feature. A revision of the limit switch tubing now includes a smaller tubing. The inner tubing doesn’t hook up to anything. It acts as a bummer to prevent the outer tubing from kinking.

Drain and Vacuum Fittings Durr fittings for Drain and Vacuum Adaptors included to fit stub ups 25mm (¾”) to ½” brass connector Secure fit, barbed ends, o-ring seal, and they swivel Red o-ring 035.053.01 Lube with silicone grease Blue retaining clip to secure each connection Clip 022.090.00 Tip: check that red o-ring is installed on the end groove the blue retaining clip inserts into the second groove and locks fittings together requires a firm push silicone lube is a good idea Durr fittings Male and Female with blue retaining clip For Drain 20mm and Vacuum 25 mm. Adaptors are included to allow these to be fitted to current stub up vac and drain pipes With the vacuum kit, you will get a black “t” and a 1 ½ in brass fitting. The black “t” is used for uncommon drain fittings. The knockout is a vent for a gravity drain.

Cuspidor Cuspidor Installation Leave tubing/cords cable tied Place rotation stop on post and tighten Place cuspidor on post, allow it to rest on the post box frame part way down Route tubing/cord bundle through arm and into lift arm Align cuspidor with arm and lower on to arm being careful not to impact stop ring Cuspidor Installation Leave tubing/cords cable tied Place rotation stop on post and tighten Place cuspidor on post, allow it to catch on inner structure part way down This allows you to route the tubing/cords through the arm

Water Bottle on Support Center Remove cap assembly with 2 screws Route tubing Mount bottle housing on support center plate with the 2 screws Trim tubing and connect to chair air/water manifold Water Bottle -quick and easy installation Align the bottle seam with the cap Push the bottle straight up Rotate bottle to the right (counter clockwise) 023.814.00 (INLINE BARB), to extend 5/16th inch water lines.
