Birch Run Early College “Providing our students with the opportunity to earn a DELTA college degree while still enrolled in classes at Birch Run High School”

Birch Run Early College Eligible students are current 10th grade students that have initially qualified through the COMPASS Test (Reading & Writing). COMPASS Math – Winter 2016. Program begins at the start of a student’s 11th grade year. Students commit to an additional year (2017-18). Students take BRHS courses and Delta College courses concurrently during their 3rd, 4th, and 5th years.

Birch Run Early College Five Year Plan Year 1 – Freshman Year. All BRHS Courses. Year 2 – Sophomore Year. All BRHS Courses. Year 3 – Junior Year. BRHS and Delta Courses. (2015-16) Year 4 – Senior Year. BRHS and Delta Courses. Students participate in commencement activities. (2016 – 17) Year 5 – BRHS and Delta Courses. Students earn BRHS diploma and Delta College Associate Degree in Arts if all requirements are met. (2017-18)

Birch Run Early College How are credits earned? 1. Advanced Placement (AP) courses. a. Taught by BRHS faculty. b. Two courses totaling 7 credits. c. Biology & Government (Scheduled for the 5th year) d. Test fee (~$90 per test) is student responsibility.

Birch Run Early College AP Test Qualifying Scores 1. AP Test scores range from 1 – 5 (5 being the highest). 2. Students must achieve a minimum score of 3 in order to receive Delta College credit.

Birch Run Early College How are credits earned? 2. Delta College Courses. a. Taught by Delta College professors at Birch Run Early College building! b. Tuition covered by Birch Run Area Schools. c. Book costs are the responsibility of the student. d. Potential of up to 55 credits.

Birch Run Early College “Old School” way of earning an Associate Degree Four years of high school + Two years of college 6 Years of education ~$6500 in tuition

Birch Run Early College “New School” way of earning an Associate Degree Four years of high school/college + One additional year of high school/college 5 Years of education $0 Tuition! Enroll now for your $6500 scholarship!

Birch Run Early College 6 Years and ~$6500 tuition OR 5 Years and $0 tuition!

Birch Run Early College Tuition is covered by Birch Run Area Schools. Early College students will participate in Commencement with their Graduation Class of 2017. Following the 5th year (grade 13), students who have met all BRHS and Delta College requirements, will earn a high school diploma and a two year Associate of Arts degree!

Birch Run Early College Benefits Earn up to a two-year Associate Degree tuition free! Transition between high school and college life is done with support from Birch Run High School resources. (i.e. books, applications, local scholarships, etc.) Potential open campus lunch for students enrolled in BREC. Renovated classrooms solely dedicated to this program. Eliminate costly and time-consuming travel. Students can participate in athletics and other extra-curricular activities until the end of their 12th grade year. Delta College student status and privileges.
