PLEASE be sure your child knows their bus number! Students will arrive at school no earlier than 8:20 and will be marked tardy after 8:30. Students will exit outside classrooms. PLEASE be sure your child knows their bus number!

If your child needs to know a change in how they will be getting home, please inform the office! We don’t always check email during the school day and can miss these important messages!

Homework pages will be sent home in the blue “everyday folder.” Be sure the blue folder is returned to school every day.

Math Homework 1 page of math homework will be sent home on Monday. Math homework should be returned in the blue everyday folder by Wednesday. The skills on the homework page will be review and extra practice - not new concepts.

Reading Homework Book Bags: Students will bring home a book bag containing a book at their instructional reading level. This is a book your child will be familiar from their reading group instruction. This book is not intended to challenge their comprehension or decoding skills.

Reading Homework Book Bags: The purpose of the book sent home, is to reinforce fluency skills and word recognition. The bag might also have ideas for strategies, or skills for your child to work on at home.

Reading Homework Book Bags: Have your child read the book to you one-two times per night to reinforce fluency and word recognition Be sure the book bag is returned to school, Monday – Thursday. If this book is lost or damaged, you will be fined $8 to replace the book.

Reading Homework Word Lists: Students will bring home a list of common sight words to practice reading.

Reading Homework Word Lists: The lists are lettered A-T. Students will be tested on their ability to read the words correctly. Have your child practice reading the words at home to mastery. Then, send the list back and your child will be tested and given a new list.

Spelling Homework Trick Words: Students will be working on learning to spell “trick words” as part of our FUNdations program. Students should practice spelling these words at home. A copy of all the trick words will be in the blue folder. We will inform you of the current unit each week.

Daily 5 Our literacy block utilizes a daily 5 structure. In addition to guided reading groups lead by the teacher, students will be engaged in a variety of literacy based activities. Read to self, read to someone, work on writing, listen to reading, word work.

Math Expressions The curriculum in first grade is focused largely on number sense, counting, and composing/decomposing numbers. Students will also be focused on applying their skills in order to solve real world problems.

During our Writing Workshop, students will be writing a variety of genres. Personal Narrative How-To Informational Short Stories Pattern Books

Science Units: Animal families and living things States of matter Earth materials STEM We alternate science with social studies every other unit.

Social Studies Units: Traditions Notable people, places and symbols Economics: wants vs. needs Geography

Class DOJO What is Class Dojo? Class Dojo is a classroom tool that helps me encourage positive behavior.
