FHHS A+ Program Training Summer 2019 FHHS A+ Program Training

Who is this Training for? This training is for SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS who want to complete their A+ tutoring hours during Summer 2019.

What is the A+ Program? The A+ Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds to eligible graduates of A+ designated high schools who attend a participating public community college or vocational/technical school, or certain private two-year vocational/technical schools.

Four Year Colleges that offer A+ Scholarships Iowa Wesleyan Lindenwood Missouri Southern State Avila Truman Stephens Columbia College UMKC Southeast Missouri State Culver-Stockton Missouri Western Webster Evangel Missouri Valley Wentworth Military Academy Drury Northwest Missouri State Westminster College Fontbonne Park University Hannibal La Grange William Woods Missouri State Missouri Baptist Link to Scholarships at 4-Year Universities: https://fhh.fhsdschools.org/UserFiles/Servers/Server_999044/File/A%20Plus%20Scholarships%204-Year%20Colleges.pdf These scholarships are determined by the colleges and may or may not be offered at anytime. Always check with the financial aid office at your prospective college. Universities not on this list may also offer A+ scholarships; please check with your specific college/university.

What does it take to be A+ Eligible? -Turn in 50 tutor hours to Mrs. Davis in the main office (by Monday, August 12th) -Have a 2.5 cumulative UNWEIGHTED GPA -Good citizenship -95% attendance -Complete the FAFSA senior year -Must score proficient or advanced on Algebra I EOC or meet requirements on the chart below ACT Math Score GPA (UNWEIGHTED) 17 or greater and 2.5 or greater 16 and 2.8 or greater 15 and 3.0 or greater **For a list of all eligibility requirements (including post-secondary), please see the A+ website: https://dhe.mo.gov/ppc/grants/aplusscholarship.php

Tutoring Assignments *All tutoring placements must be assigned by Mrs. Lowrey. *Every attempt will be made to give you your first choice, but you must be willing to settle for your second or third choice. What if I can’t go to my scheduled Summer placement? Assignments cannot be changed once given. If you cannot complete your summer placement, please contact the A+ supervisor listed on your placement sheet to let them know you will not be able to attend. You will have to go to another A+ training during the 19-20 school year and get a different A+ placement. Seniors: you must attend the Fall A+ training and complete hours in the Fall if you cannot complete your summer placement.

Attendance Attendance is required. You are responsible to show up on your assigned dates and times. If an emergency happens you MUST call your supervisor to let them know you will be late or you will not be there. Not calling when you are absent is not acceptable. If you are removed from an assignment due to poor attendance or any other reason, you will not be given another one. If you miss one of your days, you must check with your supervisor about making up hours before the end of summer. IMPORTANT: Vacation Stations and Meadows Parkway have mandatory orientations prior to your placement start date. These will be highlighted on your placement form. If you do not attend your orientation, you will not be allowed to complete your A+ hours.

Behavior DO: Do Not: Be on time. Be respectful to your supervisor and others in your environment. Have a positive attitude. Be sensitive to the special needs of children and maintain confidentiality. Turn off your cell phone. Adhere to the FHSD Student Code of Conduct and Dress Code. Do Not: Have physical contact with the children. Go or be anywhere with children without a supervisor present. Stand around waiting to be instructed to do something. Take the initiative and do something to help.

It is your responsibility to: Turn in all documented hours and your evaluation to Mrs. Davis in the Main Office once you have 50 hours. Due by Monday, August 12th. YOU are responsible for turning in the time sheet(s), not your supervisor. Contact your supervisor before the assignment starts to introduce yourself. You will be given their contact information when you pick up your placement. If you do not get in contact with your supervisor you should still attend on your regular scheduled days. Be present for every assigned day and call your supervisor when sick or late. Adhere to all policies at your assigned tutoring location. Maintain/achieve the required GPA, attendance, math assessment score and behavior requirements. Print out extra time sheets from the A+ website if you need them. **Make an appointment to talk with Mrs. Lowrey if you have significant concerns about your placement BEFORE May 6th, 2018. Remember you will only receive one A+ placement. Jennifer Lowrey: Jennifer.Lowrey@fhsdschools.org Parents should check email for any A+ correspondence.
