Draft an essay analyzing a character in AMND. 1 Draft an essay analyzing a character in AMND. 1. An introduction with a thesis statement containing three character traits you'll analyze (ex: It is clear that Egeus is selfish, manipulative, and cruel.) 2. Three body paragraphs. Each body paragraph analyzes the development of one character trait, using the Lit Analysis structure. 3. A conclusion, wrapping up your essay and making a final claim about your character. You may use your Character Foldable, a copy of AMND, and loose leaf paper. All loose leaf must be turned in to me at the end of the class period.

You may use your Character Foldable, a copy of AMND, your Lit Analysis Booklet, and loose leaf paper. All loose leaf must be turned in to me at the end of the class period. This is an independent assignment that should show your analytical reasoning, your understanding of AMND, and your writing ability. You may brainstorm together for the first 10 minutes, and then independent work will begin.

Format for body paragraphs: At least one piece of evidence per paragraph. Introduce Cite Clarify Explain Conclude (link to next paragraph)

Introduce – make a statement that you’ll prove in the paragraph. Do Introduce – make a statement that you’ll prove in the paragraph. Do *not* say “in this paragraph, I am going to…” Cite – Here’s where you use your quote. Remember to set it up using a phrase like “In Act I, Egeus says…” Clarify – This is where you summarize the meaning of the quote.

Explain – This is where you analyze how this quote proves your idea about the character. Be as specific as possible. This is the bulk of your work. Conclude – Wrap up the idea in the paragraph and link to the next one. You should restate the main character trait from your paragraph.

Your final copy should be completed on loose-leaf paper, written neatly. When you are finished, please highlight (or underline with colored pencil) your piece of evidence in each paragraph. Staple rubric on top. You may read for the rest of the period.
