Show location (to the right)
Introduce examples (for example)

Contrast info (otherwise)
To conclude (in conclusion)
To compare (much like)
Be sure to include a topic sentence for each new paragraph in the body of your essay. TOPIC +MAIN IDEA (PT.1, PT.2, PT. 3) + OOMPH TOPIC SENTENCE

Read the essay aloud as a group. (this is an example of what you will be doing)
Underline the thesis statement.
Evaluate the introductory paragraph. What could it use? Write your answer on the back.
Circle all transitions and topic sentences.
Label each transition regarding its purpose. (see list)
Number each piece of evidence the author uses from the text. How much evidence did the author give?
Does the author explain the evidence and how it relates to the overall message?
