How to Report Abuse at Glencoe 1. Find a trusted adult (principal, counselor, teacher) 2. Ask them if it is a good time to meet with them 3. Tell them what you have noticed and how you are concerned about a fellow student 4. Mention the type of abuse and location of where it happened “I saw my friend get physically abused at school and I am worried about their safety.” “I heard about _______ getting emotionally abused at work and I wanted to make sure they are going to be ok.”

SUICIDE Suicide is preventable. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem; suicide is the "only irreversible choice." It is the result of a teenager unable to see any other solutions to the problems that are consuming him/her. Suicidal people do not want to die, they want their problems to end.

Risk Factors for Suicide Psychosis- a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality. Not all people who commit suicide experience psychosis. Other factors- depression, low self-esteem, substance abuse are other conditions that suicidal people might have.

Ways to Help a Suicidal Friend Listen to your friend's feelings. Be direct about the situation: "Are you considering suicide? Do you have a plan? Will you talk to someone who will help?" Get help from: hospital, family physician, counselors, clergy, teacher, advisor, psychiatrist, etc. Take them to the person, if possible. Call 911 if danger is immediate. (Never swear to secrecy; your friend might get mad at you, but they will be alive!)

Assignment: Bullying Comic Strip/Story- Page 104 Create a comic strip or write a story about a teen who is being bullied, harassed, or cyber-bullied. Must include: At least 3 characters 3 strategies the teen tries in the situation A resolution 3 colors with the pictures
