French and Indian Wars Cause Territory Conflict between France and England Why is this important?
French and Indian Wars Washington during the French and Indian Wars The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, began in the Spring on 1754. In 1760, the battered French Army surrendered at Montreal. The entire nation of Canada was relinquished to the British. As part of the 1763 Treaty of Paris, The French lost not only Canada but also all lands in America east of the Mississippi River.
After the French & Indian War
Treaty of Paris of 1763 The British gained control over the area west of the 13 British Colonies to the Mississippi River. The French agreed to relinquish any claims to the land and no longer support them. The north and east of the Mississippi River was now under British rule.

The following laws were passed by Parliament: Pg. 6 Quartering Act (1765) King George III kept 10,000 soldiers in the colonies Required the colonists to house British soldiers and give them supplies.
Pg. 7 Sugar Act (1764) Taxed sugar, molasses, and other products Enforced punishment of smugglers
Pg. 8 Stamp Act (1765) Required all legal and commercial documents to carry an official tax stamp Included diplomas, contracts, wills, and newspapers
Pg. 9 Declaratory Act (1766) Parliament had supreme authority to rule (make laws) over colonies
Pg. 10 Townshend Acts (1767) Britain needed to raise $ Suspended NY’s assembly until N. Yorkers gave troops housing Put import taxes on goods such as glass, paper, paint, lead, and tea Could use writs of assistance, or search warrants, to search for smuggled goods
Pg. 11 Boston Massacre (March 5, 1770) Group of colonists and soldiers began insulting each other Fight broke out, soldiers fired on colonists, 5 were killed Sons of Liberty called this the BM Used as a tool for anti-British propaganda

Pg. 12 Tea Act (1773) Townshend Acts were repealed, except tea. British had total control over tea was smuggled from Holland had to pay taxes on tea
Pg. 13 Boston Tea Party (Dec.16,1773) organized by Sons of Liberty men dressed like N.A. & destroyed 342 chests of tea in Boston Harbor. showed how much colonists hated the tea tax
Pg. 14 The Intolerable Acts (1774) Punished Mass. & warned other colonies Closed port of Boston until destroyed tea was paid for Britain could house troops anywhere
These laws were protested by colonial leaders. Pg. 15 Patrick Henry (Virginia) & Samuel Adams (Mass.) Boycotts were organized refused to buy British goods “Give me liberty, or give me death”
