Reception: Summer One Overview Summer One: Eureka! Reception: Summer One Overview Welcome back to a new term where we will be learning about the growth of plants and animals. Reception will be learning the stories ‘The Tiny Seed’ and ‘Eddie’s Garden’ focusing once again on developing their speaking and listening skills. By this stage in the year, children will be writing extended pieces of work inspired by the story, characters and the class innovation. A visit to the farm will bring the characters to life as children get hands-on experiences and observations of the growth of different animals and plants. Communication and Language Physical Development Personal, Social and Emotional Development including RRS Story Telling Actions Role Play Film – story telling Skipping in time to music, hopping. Feelings – being left out. Working together as a team. Visit to the farm – behaviour and safety. Exploring Media and Materials Junk model buildings for storytelling area. Moving pictures – DT Puppets for storytelling. Understanding the World Literacy Comparison of cities and other environments. Animals – similarities and differences. Adult and baby animals. Visit to the farm – large animals Plants - seeds to plants. What happened the next day? Innovating the story. My favourite part of the story is… Other Core texts: Eric Carle series Mathematics Over the year, children will continue to develop their mathematical skills and knowledge through Maths Mastery. Alongside this, the children will apply their maths skills across the curriculum, for example comparing the size of animal homes and comparing weights of fruits. Review 2016
