WPFL Hospital Organ Donation Campaign OPTN/UNOS Region 4 Meeting November 21, 2014 Houston, TX Jeffrey Orlowski President & CEO LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma Thank you.

WPFL Hospital Campaign WPFL – National initiative to increase organ, eye, tissue, blood, and marrow donation through outreach efforts where Americans work, study, and worship Hospital Campaign – Dynamic collaboration to increase registry enrollments, involving: Public education and hospital development staff at organ, eye, and tissue donation organizations Hospitals National Partners Good morning/afternoon. I’d like to thank UNOS, on behalf of the Health Resources and Services Administration of HHS, for providing this opportunity to tell you about the Workplace Partnership for Life and a very special collaboration – the National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign, and to encourage your organizations to participate.   HRSA’s Workplace Partnership for Life is a national initiative created in 2001 that has grown to a network of more than 11,000 partner organizations at both national and local levels, who have helped register hundreds of thousands of organ, eye, and tissue donors. Hospital Campaign: Hospitals have been involved on the clinical side of donation and transplantation throughout the years. Our goal for this Campaign was to get hospitals and transplant centers also involved in promoting donor registration by collaborating with their local OPOs, Donate Life America affiliates, and eye and tissue banks to plan and implement activities that encourage donor registry sign-ups. 2

National Partners American Hospital Association American Society of Transplantation American Society of Transplant Surgeons Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation Association of Organ Procurement Organizations Donate Life America Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice International Transplant Nurses Society NATCO, The Organization for Transplant Professionals Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance United Network for Organ Sharing Eleven organizations, including the United Network for Organ Sharing, AST, ASTS, AOPO, and the American Hospital Association, support the Hospital Campaign as National Partners and have committed to help increase the number of participants actively enrolled, share information about the campaign with their members, and encourage them to become involved in Phase IV. National Partners are also highlighting the Campaign and the great work underway by OPOs, DLAs, hospitals, and transplant centers on their websites, in member communications, on monthly webinars and conference calls, and at annual meetings. Together, we are working to encourage donation registration and to foster a culture of donation within and beyond hospitals!

Registry Enrollments – Phases I-III Each year, the Campaign features a special challenge. This is a period of time when hospitals and transplant centers implement a variety of outreach activities and events to encourage enrollment in their state’s donor registry. We’re very proud to report that during the first three years of the Campaign, through their outreach activities, our Campaign partners have motivated 327,815 registry enrollments.

Phase III Achievements (concluded May 31, 2014) 397 enrolled hospitals and 78 enrolled transplant centers earned gold, silver, or bronze levels of recognition 32 enrolled OPOs, 18 enrolled DLAs, and 13 enrolled state hospital associations received recognition As you can see here, in Phase III, a broad range of Campaign participants earned recognition including 397 hospitals and 78 transplant centers, for conducting hospital and community activities that promoted enrollment in state organ donor registries.  This dynamic collaboration between HRSA, the National Partners, donation organizations and hospitals continues to energize a nationwide network of advocates for organ, eye, and tissue donation.  Today, I’ll share about Phase IV of the campaign and how your organizations can enroll and participate.

Goals Increase donor registration by 100,000 Phase IV August 2014 – April 2015 Goals Increase donor registration by 100,000 Enroll additional hospitals, transplant centers, DLAs, eye banks, tissue banks, and state hospital associations Boost the activity level of all partners Phase IV of the campaign began in August 2014 and continues through April 2015, concluding with National Donate Life Month, a time when hospitals and transplant centers are especially focused on promoting awareness and donor registration. The goals of this phase are: We intend to add another 100,000 registered donors …And we are focused on increasing the number of hospitals, transplant centers, DLAs, eye and tissue banks, and state hospital associations enrolled in the Campaign – and especially the activity level of all partners.

26 of 52 State Hospital Associations Enrolled Partners (as of 11/03/14) 1291 of 4,471 Hospitals 160 of 247 Transplant Centers 26 of 52 State Hospital Associations 58 of 58 OPOs 25 of 52 DLAs As Phase IV of the Hospital Campaign is underway, we are thrilled to report that we now have 100% enrollment of all OPOs! Joining all fifty-eight (58) OPOs are one thousand two hundred and ninety-one(1,291) hospitals including one hundred and sixty transplant centers, twenty-six (26) hospital associations, and twenty-five (25) Donate Life America affiliates—working together in communities and across states to promote donor awareness and enrollment.   In Region 4, HRSA has received enrollment forms from twenty-four (24) hospitals and ten (10) transplant centers. These partners are educating hospital employees, patients and community members about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation and registering new donors. 100% OPO Enrollment!

Annual Challenges Enrolled hospitals earn recognition through challenges More than 40 suggested donor registration activities to earn points Campaign Scorecard for recording actions In support of all partners in the Campaign, HRSA provides a range of resources and materials to help ensure a successful effort. Here’s a shot of the Scorecard, which features a menu of activities to help guide hospitals with engagement and outreach activities. Hospitals and transplant centers work with their OPO to plan donor registration activities using the suggested actions provided on the scorecard. Each donor awareness activity – such as --- setting a goal for the number of new donor sign-ups a hospital will strive to achieve during Phase IV, hospital CEO email blasts to all employees, hosting donor registry drives and Donate Life flag raisings, placing articles about donation with links to state donor registries in community newsletters, is assigned a point value. Hospitals and transplant centers return the scorecard to their OPO who submits the form to HRSA along with the number of donor registry enrollments, if recorded. Afterwards, HRSA will tally Scorecards, count reported donor registry enrollments, and recognize participants’ achievements. Depending on their total point score at the end of the challenge, participants can earn gold, silver or bronze recognition and receive a certificate of achievement from HRSA/HHS and recognition from the Campaign’s National Partners. www.organdonor.gov/howhelp/hospitalcampaign.html
