We Volunteers

Our Volunteer Philosophy Volunteers are critically important to the BCA and we always strive to match volunteers interests, skills and availability with available positions. We want our volunteers to feel important, needed and valued so that they enjoy their experience and want to come back. Volunteering with the BCA should be rewarding, interesting and fun. We value the ideas, feedback and comments that our volunteers provide. We are all part of the same team with the goal of making Bridlewood a great place to live, work and play.

Why Volunteers are so important The BCA is entirely dependent on Volunteers Without Volunteers we would not have an Executive Without Volunteers we could not hold any events o No Spring Sports o No March Break Movie Night o No True Sport Play Day o No Family Bike Chase o No Member and Volunteer BBQ o No December Social or Decorating Contest

Why Volunteers are so important We would not have any outdoor rinks in Bridlewood We would not be able to donate $500 to each school each year There would be no street rep program or street parties Development and traffic would not be monitored High School students would have a harder time finding Community Service Hours

What made them start volunteering Family tradition – it was something that they learned from their parents or grandparents As a way to meet new people, especially for new residents, and a chance to meet like minded people They love to help people An opportunity to have a voice in their community As a way to get to know the neighbourhood better For a challenge and to use or learn new skills Because they knew they were needed As a retiree or stay at home parent, for the satisfaction they got from work as well as for the support of and interaction with colleagues.

What our Volunteers Do Participate on the Executive Committee providing leadership to the Association Act as Committee Chairs for a variety of tasks Organize and run events Coach and otherwise help run the Spring Sports Program Prepare, water and maintain the rinks Write articles and newsletters, maintain the website and otherwise promote the BCA Monitor Development, Traffic and other issues Help keep residents informed and find solutions to issues

Why they keep doing it They really like the people they work with. Continually meeting new people and making a difference in their lives Opportunity to bring new ideas to the table or to effect what is happening in Bridlewood. They see the amount of work that goes into what we do and want to be a part of a vibrant association. They have already committed significant time and effort to the BCA and want to see it continue to be successful

Why they keep doing it (contd) Always the first to know what is going on They feel that they are constantly learning something new. The BCA provides valuable services to the community They enjoy what they are doing Personal satisfaction in completing a challenging task They feel that what they are doing is important and worthwhile.

Volunteers by the numbers Executive Committee attending meetings = Spring Sports Coaches Planning and running events Maintaining Rinks Committee Chairs Treasurer and Secretary hours 10 meetings x 2 hours x 5 people 8 weeks x 2 coaches x 60 teams 4 events x 20 hours (minimum) 9 rinks x 90 hours 13 x 1 hours x 10 months 2 x 5 hours x 10 months = 100 hours = 960 hours = 80 hours = 810 hours = 130 hours = 100 hours

Total Hours o A conservative estimate of hours dedicated to the BCA over 1 year is 2180 hours. o This doesnt include street reps and coffee klatches, executive meetings or Presidents hours o Can you spare an hour or two? There is always something to do! Contact
