Presentation transcript:

What Really Happened to Humpty? Let’s investigate English What Really Happened to Humpty? The children will begin by investigating the crime scene. They will annotate and produce detailed reports and accounts from all suspects as well as witnesses. The character portraits they create will be used to generate opinion writing on who they think did it! The children will also have various opportunities within the story to generate newspaper reports. Science Our Lets Investigate topic lends itself perfectly to comparisons and uses of everyday materials.  We will be using scientific vocabulary to describe the properties of a variety of materials including natural and man made.  Growing our understanding of properties will mean we can choose appropriate materials for a specific purpose when planning investigations later in the term. P.E This term the children will be practising Netball skills such as bounce, chest and shoulder passes as well as game strategies and rules.  They will be playing games of High 5 netball which is a primary school game played throughout the country involving team of 5 players, rotating positions.  Pupils will also have a gymnastics session each week, focusing on balance, position and control of the body.   English SPAG This term the class will take a more in depth focus during lessons on spelling, punctuation and grammar. The Year 2 children will be focusing on the following key areas; suffixes, prefixes, past tense, present tense, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, verbs, commas and apostrophes. In addition, the children will be learning about the difference between a command, exclamation, question and statement. The Year 3 will be refreshing their knowledge on the above as well as looking at homophones, inverted commas and prepositions. All children will be taught about the importance of application and consistency. They will demonstrate their understanding by applying learnt rules and patterns in creative writing tasks. Maths This term the children will look at the more formal written methods of calculation in addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. There will be a focus on arithmetic skills and using these skills to solve problems. The children will add depth to their learning by learning a method, applying it and then using it to solve a problem. There will be an emphasis on each child being able to explain and convince others of the answers they have given with justifications and reasons why. The whole class will complete work on fractions. The Year 2 children will be recognising, naming and writing simple fractions. Year 3 children will be recognising and finding fractions of a group of objects. They will also look at equivalent fractions, add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and compare and order fractions. Problem solving will be integrated throughout. This will ensure that their independence and reasoning skills continue to develop. R.E God, The Torah and The People An introductory session will begin by looking at what Judaism is, who founded Judaism and why Moses is important to Jewish people. The class will explore the main beliefs and what Jewish people believe God is like. They will move on to look at the lives of Jewish people and how they live, as well as what it means to be Jewish in Britain today. Finally, they will explore the importance and significance of Jewish festivals and family life. Music – The children will be developing their understanding for the history of music. They will look at various pieces over time, including Henry Mancini’s instrumental composition, ‘The Pink Panther’. Ukulele will continue for both year groups on a Friday. HistoryThis term we will be investigating life during Victorians times.  This will primarily be by looking at school and work life for children during the Victorian Era, proving us a chance to make comparisons between then and now.  We will also look at the development of industry and key inventions of the time as well as the development of the police force. Art The year 2 children will be completing a colour mixing unit. The Year 3 children will develop their knowledge of mixing colours using water colours and acrylics. Visits/Themed Days – The Old Police Station Museum/Victorian Day
