Maths Translate and rotate 3D shapes. Solve problems involving these skills. Identify 3D shapes from 2D representations. Angles of a rectangle (find the missing angles based on facts) Find missing lengths of a rectangle – draw a shape with a certain perimeter. Find the missing angle with angles on a straight line and angles on a curve. Add, subtract and multiply fractions. Order decimal numbers and round them to 2dp. Estimate volume and capacity. Round numbers to check answers. Multistep problem solving. Literacy Reading Summarise the main idea from a paragraph. Summarise details from things implied. Identify how language and structure contribute to meaning. Writing Select appropriate grammar and punctuation, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning. Use a wide range of devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs. Propose changes to grammar and give clear targets in peer and self assessment. Cursive handwriting. Grammar and Punctuation Ensure correct subject and verb agreement. Write in the correct and consistent tense. Proof read for spelling and punctuation errors. Use interesting vocabulary and adverbs consistently. Spelling Spell words with further prefixes. Spell further homophones. Know that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution and describe how to recover a substance. Investigate which objects conduct electricity. Science Create our own fair tests, testing out how to reverse changes and which materials are good for different jobs. Design, conduct and evaluate our own scientific experiments. Investigation into electrical conductors and test our own knowledge. Maths Weekly time tables and arithmetic tests, Group problem solving using nrich. Collaborative working. Giving reasons why answers are correct and incorrect. PE Rounders with Year 6. have a turn at different roles on the pitch. Dance – prepare for showcase at Aquinas college. RE Drama of different ten commandments. Write an explanation of how to follow the ten commandments. Year 5 Summer “Road to Rio” Suggested Activities Computing Create a programme using a code that makes a model move. Make our own game. Watch how each other makes a game using code. Art/DT .Use different materials to create our own Olympic flags. Build up to Olympic bunting painted onto cotton. French Speak in French for a whole lesson to see if we are able to understand what is being said. Music Research the Olympics, past theme tunes used in the Olympics. Design and perform their own Olympic theme tune. Geography Research different features of Brazil and label a map. Compare Rio de Janiero to Manchester. Travel brochure for Brazil. Link to Olympics in art and music.
