Lesson Vocabulary supported (adjective): When something is supported, it is held up by something. (en esp. soportado) How are you supported by your friends? How did you support your conclusion/assertion in your conversation? unsupported (adjective): When something is unsupported, it is not supported OR it is inadequately supported (en esp. no soportado) When did you last hear an unsupported claim? Helen Keller is one example of an individual who used her obstacles to develop courage. When Keller was a young girl, she became sick with a terrible illness, causing her to lose her sight and hearing. At first, this obstacle got the better of her. In Water, her autobiography, Keller describes how she once smashed a new doll against the floor and was actually delighted to feel the fragments; since she did not know how to communicate with others, she couldnt tell right from wrong, and she felt no remorse for her actions. However, with the help of her dedicated teacher, Anne Sullivan, Keller learned the meaning of language. Eventually, she was able to read, write, and speak. She even published an autobiography. Keller shows that the same obstacles that stand in your way can make you an extraordinary and courageous person.
