Presentation transcript:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Mrs. Hartley I am the 5th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher

5th grade Organization In preparation for 6th grade, I have implemented a binder system ELA classes have been given a binder with tabs (ELA/social studies are in the same binder) The tabs are identified on the front of each binder as well as in the back of the classroom

5th Grade Planner At the beginning of the school year each 5th grade student was given a planner This planner travels with the student to all classes. If homework was assigned in subject areas, it will be written in the planner. Students are responsible for their own planner, but are given time at the end of the day to fill out any missing assignments I check planners every Thursday to ensure all students are using them correctly Please check your child’s planner daily

Social Studies Curriculum In 5th grade, Students will discover the development of the Americas through ancient cultures, early colonists, conflicts, and resolutions that shaped our country and culture as well as their role as a United States Citizen.

ELA Students will gain a more sophisticated understanding of English Language Arts through literature, oral language, and writing.

I am looking forward to a GREAT school year!!!!
