What happens to food and energy when it enters the cell? CELL STRUCTURES What happens to food and energy when it enters the cell?

MITOCONDRIA Mitochondria- AKA “ The POWERHOUSE” Breaks down food and releases energy

LYSOSOMES… ENZYMES THAT DIGEST OR BREAK DOWN, PROTEINS, LIPIDS, DNA and RNA They enclose and digest food (using their enzymes) RECYCLE enzymes

VACUOLES… ~Fluid filled vesicle located in the cytoplasm of a plant cell. ~STORES, water, enzymes and wastes. ~Keeps toxic things away from the rest of the cell

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM (ER) ~ A system of membrane tubes and sacs that create a path for molecules to move from one part of the cell to another. SMOOTH & ROUGH

GOLGI BODIES/GOLGI COMPLEX ~ An organelle that helps make and package materials to be transported out of the cell. Lipids and Proteins from the ER are delivered here– they are modified for different functions.
