1 Cell Structure

2 Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic
Eukaryotic Larger, more complex Membrane bound organelles Ex.(animals and plants) Prokaryotic Small, less complex Lack organelles with membranes Ex.(bacteria) *Notes Correction on your sheet: the first example is plant and animals for Eukaryotic and for the second it is bacteria for Prokaryotic

3 What Do All Cells Have In Common?
Cell Membrane- Outer covering allowing “things” to enter or exit. Cytoplasm- gelatin like material.

4 How is Cell Activity Directed?
The nucleus directs all cell activities. It is the Largest organelle. The Chromosomes are located in the nucleus. A cell’s DNA is located on here.

5 How do Vacuoles differ in Animal and Plant Cells
Vacuoles much larger in plant cells Store food, water and waste (until removal) Some animal cells do not have a vacuole

6 How Do Cells Get Energy? Mitochondria Also known as the “Power House” of the cell. Carries out cellular respiration releasing energy.

7 Manufacturing Organelles
Ribosomes make proteins for cell activities. endoplasmic reticulum(ER), a series of smooth or rough membranes that move materials around in a cell. Some ribosomes attach to the rough part of the ER.

8 Transporting and Storing Organelles
Golgi bodies move substances out of a cell or to other parts of a cell Vacuoles— membrane-bound temporary storage spaces

9 Recycling Organelles Lysosomes break down food molecules and cell wastes

10 Organelles not present in Animal Cells
Chloroplast- Photosynthesis takes place here. Gives plants green color. Cell Wall- protects and supports, found in bacteria, plants and fungi.
