Open Book Question #3 Player A1 is fouled by B1 in the act of shooting and falls to the floor. The ball does not go in the basket. Player A1 is upset with the contact on the foul and responds by causing “excessive contact” with B1 by shoving her. A1 is charged with a Flagrant 2 Technical Foul. The Official shall:

Correct Ruling Eject A1. A1's substitute will shoot the two free throws for B1's personal foul. Then any member from Team B will shoot two free throws for A1's flagrant II contact technical foul. Play resumes with a throw-in to Team B at the POI. Throw-in is awarded on the end line, since the POI is the free throws for the personal foul 7-4.15,7-5.1.b,8-6.4,8-8.1; A.R. 176

Notes: Appendix IV pgs. 111 - 116 If a flagrant 1 or 2 Personal Foul is called Offended player is awarded two free-throw shots Throw-in is awarded to offended team at spot nearest to where foul occurred.

Con’t (Appendix IV pgs. 111 – 116) If a Technical Foul is called: Offended team is awarded two free-throw shots Throw-in is awarded at spot nearest to where the ball was located when stoppage occured (POI) 7-5.1

Inspecting Court and Players Before the Game Players are not allowed to wear “Ear Buds” during warm-ups (Rule 1-26) - Prohibits players from using equipment that is not appropriate for basketball Be proactive during warm-ups by looking for jewelry, check out knee braces …

Information Shared at Coaches Meeting Separate Timing Device – Official timer shall start a digital stop watch for a charged timeout, for intermission following the first and third period, to replace a disqualified player, to remedy a blood situation, or to remedy a lost, irritated, or displaced contact lens, and signal referee when it is time to resume play. (2-10.8)

Con’t (Official Timer – Separate Timing Device) Intermission following the first and third periods  (1 minute NYS High School modified rule) To replace a disqualified player  15 seconds To remedy a blood situation or to remedy a lost, irritated, or displaced contact lens  20 seconds The official timer will signal with the horn when it is time to resume play

Time-out Format 4 full time-outs (60 Seconds) 2 30 Second Time-outs

Review of 10 Second Violation When an official is late in recognizing a 10 second back violation call the back court violation no adjustment “Game Clock” ball is awarded out of bounds at POI I think what you are getting at here is the official stops play on his own to recognize a late 10 second call. If that’s the case, that could be the heading to remove confusion. It took me a while to figure that out along with a text message to you….and still no repsonse.

Con’t Review of 10 Second Violation Backcourt Violation by Team A after play is stopped for a common foul Place Time back onto the game clock Ignore Common Foul (penalize violation) Ball is awarded out of bounds nearest to where foul occurred Again if you’re talking about stopping a play for common foul…should be the title/heading and then explain what happens/result in the body

Con’t Review of 10 Second Violation Backcourt Violation by Team A after play is stopped for Flagrant 1 or 2, or Technical Foul Place time back onto the Game Clock Offended team gets shots Awarded throw-in nearest to where foul occurred If you haven’t caught on by now…..we are all in trouble.

Ten Second Rule Ten Second Count is not reset when the … Team in control retains possession after a held ball Defense causes out of bounds violation Technical foul assessed to the team in control (appendix V, p. 119)

Mechanical Reminder Trail must have a “visual” 10 second count when shot clock is off

Avoid Turning Away On Held Ball Situations Move in towards the players Only after ensuring all play has stopped and players are separated, the official facing the table checks the “A-P Arrow” Remind official further away to check shot clock. In two man, do we want both official running in? I know three man in my pregame I like to keep one out just incase shit hits the fan elsewhere.

VIDEOS Block/Charge Play – refereeing the defense and keeping the offensive player in your view is critical in making the right call (officiate the play from beginning to end) 4th video Post Play – illegal contact in the “Post” 9th video

Cont’ Videos Avoiding turning away from players (slides 5 & 6) Coverage for 3 point try (slides16/17/18) New Signals (slide 25) 1. Option to Advance 2. Chucking the Cutter/Displacing Post Player 3. Rebounding Foul “Staying Here”

Closing Remarks Good luck this season, please let me know if you would like to see a topic/rule discussed.
