A-A* Task: Last lesson we looked at why Churchill became Prime Minister, using your knowledge of this event, bullet point 5 key reasons why Churchill did in fact become PM on 10 May 1940.

A-A* As you know, this paper is heavily sourced based and will rely on your analytical skills in order for you to reach the top grades. When approaching sources you should always: State whether the sources agree or disagrees with the question in hand Analyse the provenance of the source - Is it useful? Who wrote it? Why was it written? How typical is it? Discuss the historical context – For example what knowledge could confirm or challenge a source? What was happening at this time?

Complete the table highlighting for each source whether it supports the view of the question, the general view of the source, and evidence in the source that supports this. Challenge: To achieve the higher grades you will need to apply your knowledge of the historical context. To test these sources, discuss what sorts of knowledge might be used e.g. what knowledge might confirm or challenge the reasons given in each source.
