Outcome B, Benchmark 2 Argument Analysis

The test Monday – 11/19 One speech, one page. 12 short answer questions Claim, ethos, pathos, logos, tone, repetition

Elie Wiesel – Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech 1. Let’s Practice Elie Wiesel – Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech

Read the speech on your own. Find the claim. Annotate for ethos, pathos, logos. What is the author’s purpose/goal? Answer the questions on the back.

Find & Analyze an appeal. In the blank space on the back, find an example of either ethos, pathos, or logos. Copy down the quotation. Then, explain how this appeal helps his argument.

With the partner next to you Compare and discuss your answers. Are there differences? Decide who is correct. Be prepared to go over these in about 5 minutes.

Let’s go through the speech together. As we read, raise your hand when your quotation comes up. You’ll help us! Add any annotations you missed. Don’t be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS!
