1 Warm up – Page 30 Use of Language for Effect 1. Define diction and then briefly explain why it is important in persuasive speech. 2. Copy down the definition and example of Chiasmus. Chiasmus – Rhetorical device in which two or more clauses are balanced against each other by the reversal of their structure to produce an artistic effect. Ex: Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. 3. Copy down the definition of Anaphora. Anaphora - In writing or speech, the deliberate repetition of the first part of the sentence in order to achieve an artistic effect.
