4 BA3 Pick the text out of the four read for today that you wish to analyze and write your rhetorical analysis over. Identify audience and purpose and provide a short ( word) explanation. Be specific! Don’t just say “a general audience,” or “to inform the audience.” Identify 5 rhetorical choicesand do the following: 1) define the device 2) explain how the device supports/is related to audience and/or purpose. As always, be specific! Identification of audience and purpose needs to be in paragraph format. Rhetorical choices can be in a list. Due Friday by midnight. As with the Old Spice commercial, think carefully. Audience and purpose may not be as obvious as you think. HINT: Look at the place of publication listed at the beginning of the piece in the textbook. This will provide clues as to the audience and purpose of the piece.

5 For Next Monday: From the textbook: Ch. 2 pages 26-36
Find an ad (be it TV commercial or print ad, though it must be a short print ad) and analyze it like we did today. Come prepared to discuss it in groups and possibly present it to the class. Ch 2 will be most helpful in identifying audience and purpose. Ch 13 provides annotated texts to illustrate reading rhetorically.
