DSL, FIOS and Cable Better choice than T1 for many libraries Reliability vs. Cost Cost approximately $100/month

Access New Jersey update: Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) portion has ended Access NJ rates available through 2014 Verizon billing remains a problem…

About Bandwidth… Web 2.0, video, audio usage requires additional bandwidth Increase in usage during bad economic times When adding computers, consider the impact on your bandwidth Libraries that connect to the JerseyConnect network can view real-time bandwidth utilization JerseyConnect can assist with network problems, device isolation

Accomplishments over the past year

Infrastructure redesign and optimization Verizon EVPL transport PoP EVPL is switched ethernet Direct fiber from library to JerseyConnect Attractive option for libraries needing more than a full T1 line Break even point in price = 2 T1 lines Verizon product direction is moving away from frame-relay and ATM, toward direct fiber

Infrastructure redesign and optimization Verizon EVPL transport PoP 100 Mbps Port Cost $1000/month Bandwidth rates applyas well Example 20 Mbps = $200/month 10 Mbps Port First Quarter 2009 Pricing forthcoming (approx. $700/month) Mileage charges may also apply

Infrastructure redesign and optimization ISP port upgrades Increased two ISP ports from 100Mbps to 1000 mbps Connection via fiber instead of copper Completed January 2008 Future JerseyConnect internet capacity will be 3000 Mbps Current peak utilization is approx 200 Mbps

Infrastructure redesign and optimization Transport circuit upgrades Increased PoP to PoP transport to 150 Mbps Completed May 2008

Infrastructure redesign and optimization Server infrastructure upgrades Blade architecture SAN Implementation completed June 2008 Server migration completed by January 2009

Infrastructure redesign and optimization JerseyConnect web site / portal launch Informational Network status Bandwidth utilization

Infrastructure redesign and optimization platform upgrades Committed to improvement After exhaustive research and testing we have selected…

SmarterMail

Full rendering of HTML messages in webmail Automatically created Global Address List per domain

SmarterMail Shared Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, Notes, and Mail folders RSS reader embedded in webmail Outlook integration

Demo available at user: demo password: d3mopass

Infrastructure redesign and optimization platform upgrade anticipated milestone dates: SmarterMail in production – February 2009 Beta testers – March 2009 Migration period begins – April 2009 iMail will remain in production for one year

Over the next six months: Process improvements Contract negotiations Strategic planning Pursuing additional funding

Possible expanded service offerings if additional funding can be obtained: Web site design Expanded applications hosting Full service help desk Technology consulting

Process improvements We learn as we go and adjust accordingly Communication improvements - Notification list Monitoring / alert system improvements
