What? When? Why? How?

What is the Sat? The SAT is a test to measure your college readiness. There is no such thing as “passing” or “failing” the SAT Rather, there are benchmarks that show college readiness Most 4 year colleges and universities require SAT or ACT scores. 2 year colleges do not require SAT or ACT scores, but will accept scores for English and Math placement.

SAT day is Wednesday, March 7, 2018 The district is paying for all juniors to take the SAT.

Does my sat score really matter? Four Year College: SAT score + GPA + transcript = admissions decision Most 4 year colleges and universities will require you submit your SAT score as part of the application for admission. Some will let you choose an interview instead (e.g. Whitworth is a test opt out school).

SFCC and SCC will accept SAT score for English and Math placement: Two Year College: SFCC and SCC will accept SAT score for English and Math placement: SAT Evidence based Reading and Writing score of 530 will place you in college level English. SAT Math score of 550 will place you in Math 107/146

High School The SAT is a state approved alternative for graduation testing standards on both ELA and Math. If you attempt the SBAC at least once but do not pass, an SAT subject score of 430 or more may be submitted to the state for approval. Do your best!

SAT 3 hours, 50 minutes 1600 maximum score possible Reading and Writing 100 minutes Math 80 minutes Essay 50 minutes Section 1 All questions are based on passages. Most of these do not require a calculator! Score range up to 800 Optional section (required for school day exam) Difficult requirement Read a short essay Your essay is based on how you feel the author did communicating, defending, supporting his/her viewpoint. More about the SAT Tips It is far more important to answer questions correctly than it is to answer all questions! ½ of 1% finish the test. Most get through about 2/3. If your going to guess and running out of time, eliminate those you know are wrong. Sometimes you won't be able to eliminate any answers, and other times there are questions that you won't have time to look at. For those, we have a simple solution. Pick a "letter of the day," or LOTD (from A to D) and use that letter for all the questions from which you weren't able to eliminate any choices.

How to review your sat scores

Some colleges will superscore your SAT scores. What does that mean Some colleges will superscore your SAT scores. What does that mean? Please click on the video below that will help you understand what SAT superscore means. Sat superscore

After the test… Create a College Board account at www.collegeboard.org You will need to use your SAT registration number to pull in your test scores. This is how you send scores to colleges where you are applying. Send scores within 9 days of your test date and you will get 4 free sends. After the 9 days, its $12.00 / school. We also have SAT waiver in the career center. If you plan to retake, wait to send scores together. Scores will be available online about 3-4 weeks after test day. Plan to retake SAT if: You are currently in Algebra II or Geometry/Intermediate Math You are planning to apply to selective schools and your scores do not equal the school’s freshman average scores.

REMEMBER IT IS JUST A TEST Relax – if you are too stressed, your brain won’t work right! Keep it in perspective! This is one day. YOU are more than this test score. Many colleges understand that test scores are not great indicators of who a student is!

Registration Announcement Registration for the 2018/2019 school year will be January 30, 2018. More information will be available in January.

Important Registration suggestions: Please talk with your Science, Math and English teachers about course recommendations for next year before you register January 30th.   Explore elective options and interview elective teachers. Make sure your courses align with your post- secondary pathway. Review all plans with your parents/guardian.

Closing Please take some time and review your SAT prep booklet. ~Thank you
