So you were told to make a video How to create a video with Adobe Premiere

Contact In person: Visit our technology support desk. Email: rob.horlacher@uleth.ca

Learning objectives Learn the layout of Adobe Premiere Learn how to edit a basic video

A video…or two for editing Slow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58VQ7_Hugbg&t Fast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKWXEfXGWtA

Editing Editing can be a way to convey mood to the audience Editing can do this through: Shot length Music Choice Color Palette Choice of video take Be mindful about what mood you would like to convey and how to achieve that

What is Adobe Premiere? Adobe Premiere is a professional video editor. This means that it is able to splice together video clips, audio clips and images. In addition, it has the ability to: Add simple video effects and transitions Add audio effects and transitions Add Text

Video Dimensions Something to be mindful of is that your video will lose quality if your recording resolution is smaller than your final video. If you record something at 1280px x 720px it will begin to pixelate if your edited resolution is 1920px x 1080px. Traditionally video dimensions are: 720px x 480px (Standard Definition) 1280px x 720px (High Definition) 1920px x 1080px (Full High Definition) 3840px x 2160px (Ultra High Definition(4K))

Starting a New Project When premiere first opens it will prompt you with a screen that allows you to start a new project Once the button is clicked, it will allow you to fill out your project title and select the folder you would like the project to sit in. Task: Start a New Project

Adobe Premiere Workspaces Workspaces make it easier to accomplish your task. Commonly used worksPaces are: Assembly – Makes it easier to add your content to the timeline Editing – Creates a bigger space for editing the timeline and viewing your content Color - Adds a color management option Task: Make sure the assembly workspace is selected.

Importing assets To import assets, click and drag your content into the box that says “Import media to start” while in the assembly workspace. Task: Find two images online and save them to your desktop. Go to www.bensound.com and download a song. For Citrix: to import the photos and song, go to File > Import. Use the folders on the left hand side and go to Local Disk C > Users > Library > Desktop and select your files (Hold CTRL while clicking both)

Starting a new Sequence Within your project, you will also need to create a sequence to create your video To do this click File > New > Sequence In the new window appears, click on Digital SLR and then choose your appropriate resolution and Frame rate (this information can be found on the initial recording)

Starting a new Sequence Task: Start a New Sequence On the screen that appears choose DSLR > 1080p > DSLR 1080p30

Adding content to the timeline (alternative way to start a new sequence) An alternative way to create a sequence is to click and drag a video clip to the timeline you would like to use. Your sequence will now be based around the settings of the first clip. To add additional items to your sequence, click and drag them to the timeline. Task: Add Both of your images to the timeline. Add the music to your timeline in the same way

Using Multiple Video and Audio tracks Adobe Premiere uses layering to create video content. Video – A video that is above another video on the timeline will be displayed above that video in the final rendering. Audio – Audio clips will come out as a consistent sound. Layer placement does not have an impact on the sound that is rendered. Task: Move one of the images on the timeline to a track above the opposite image. Make sure they are directly above and beneath each other. Move playhead to place in timeline where clips intersect

Tool Bar Selection Tool – Moves items around the timeline Track select forward tool – Selects all items on the timeline that are to the right of the tool position when it is clicked. Razor tool – divides video clips at the point that the razer tool is clicked. Type tool – Creates a text box in the preview window when it is clicked and dragged in the preview window.

Tool Bar Task: Move the clips so that they are side by side on the same video track. If there is a space in between them, right click the space and select ripple delete. With the selection tool selected, move the cursor to the edge of one of your clips until you see half a red square and an arrow. Click and drag out the clip. Select the Razor tool and click in the middle of the clip.

Tool Bar Task: Select the Track select forward tool and click at the beginning of the timeline. Click and drag your clips back and forth (this should select all of the clips to the right of the cursor)

Type Tool To use the tool: Task: Click the type tool (First) Click and drag the tool to the size you want in the preview windows (second) Choose the font, size, color, etc. that you would like your text to be (in editing workspace click effect controls) (third) Task: Use the type tool and change the font (use the graphics workspace)

Keyframes Keyframes can be added to video and sound clips in order to manipulate that clip at a specified time. TO add keyframes, you must select a clip and move your playhead to the point where you would like a keyframe added. Keyframes can then be moved on the clip. Video: Moving the keyframe up and down will change the transparency of the clip Audio: Moving the keyframe up and down will adjust the loudness of the clip

Keyframes Task: Right click on the top of clip and select opacity from the drop down menu Add two keyframes to a clip Move one keyframe to the bottom of the clip (like in the image) Do the same for your audio clip (right click on the clip and select volume > Level if nothing happens)

Exporting the final Document TO export Click File > Export > Media Select the H.264 option from the Format dropdown list Click on Output Name to choose your file title and file destination Click the video tab Click the Match Source Button in Basic Video Settings In Bitrate settings Choose VBR, 2 pass Target Bitrate to around 10 Maximum bitrate to around 12 Task: Change the listed settings
