Before You Begin Open up one of your files from Lesson 1

1 st Step Import Images Types of Media Camtasia Supports – Video Files (.camrec,.avi,.mpg,.mov) – Image Files (.bmp,.gif,.jpg,.png) – Audio files (.wav,.mp3,.wma) – Sipped project files

Importing Media In Camtasia Studio, select Import media in the Task List or in the Welcome Window. Select the file(s) to import. Hold to select multiple files. Click Open. The media appears in the Clip Bin. Import media

Import a Zip project In Camtasia Studio, select File > Import Zipped Project. The Import Zipped Project File dialog box appears. Click Browse and select a zipped project file. Select a project directory. Enable the Open project after import option to open the project in Camtasia Studio. Click OK.

Make basic edits to the clip on the Timeline First click on Edit, then add to time line. The Editing Dimensions box will appear.

Timeline selection -Make a selection on the Timeline to apply edits to specific areas of the video. -Click a location on the Timeline -Click and drad the playhead. The timeline highlights the selection area in blue. -At this time you can cut the section you highlighted by right clicking on the highlighted section and clicking Cut Selection. Mark-In or Mark-out a clip Marking-in a clip to remove time from the beginning or end of a clip. – Note: this option hides a portion of the clip instead of cutting it. Click to select a clip on the Timeline. Triangles appear on the beginning or end of the clip. Place your cursor over the beginning or end of the clip A handle appear. Click and drag the handle to mark-in or mark-out the clip.

Extend the Frame of a clip Extends the duration a frame displays on the Timeline. (this option helps extend the video frame to match the length of the audio or voice narration. – Position the playhead to the frame to extend. – Right-click on the clip and select Extend Frame – The Extend Frame dialog box appears. Select the duration from the frame (in seconds). – Click OK

Duration of a Clip or element To change the default duration, select Tools>Options> Program tab>Default duration

Changing Speed NOTE: Do NOT change the speed of a clip, if the clip includes audio. Changing the clip speed can cause the audio to become out-of- sync with the video. 1 st : Select a clip on the Timeline 2 nd : Right-click on the clip and select Clip Speed 3 rd : the Clip Speed dialog box appears. Enter a percentage of the original clip speed to speed up or slow down play back 4 th : Click OK

Adding Audio Drag an audio clip from the Clip Bin onto the Audio 1, AUdio2, Audio3, or PIP Audio. – You must Unlink the Audio and Video track: click on the line connecting them and click Unlink To move all clips on a track and maintain the spacing between clips, hold down the key and drag the clip along the track

Editing Audio  Fade In /Fade Out : The speed of the fade depends on the size of the selection.  Volume Up : Increases the volume of all audio on the Timeline by 25%.  Volume Down : Decrease the volume of all audio on the Timeline by 25%.  Replace with Silence : Mutes the audio selection on the Timeline. Unlike the delete or cut options, this option does not remove any of the existing waveform.  To apply an audio option  1. Lock the Audio Track (Audio 1, Audio 2, Audio 3, or PIP Audio) that you do not want to apply the option to.  2. Drag the seek bar across the Timeline to make a selection. You do not need to make a selection to apply the Volume Up or Volume Down options.  3. Click the audio option on the Timeline toolbar. Fade In Fade Out Volume Up Volume Down Replace with Silence Click to Lock or Unlock

Title clip Use a title clip to add a static clop with a graphic and/or text: – Before a clip on the Timeline as a title or introduction. – Between clips on the Timeline as a chapter heading – At the end of the video to display credits or resources.

Title Clip In the Add List, select Title Clips The Title Clips pane appears. Enter a title for the clip.

Title Clip  To add a back ground image, enable the Image option and click Browse.  To change the background color, click the Color button to select a color.  To add text, type within the text box in the pane  Click Finished.

Practice Try going through these steps on one of your other recordings you practiced making during your first lesson Make sure you save the files so you can publish them in lesson 3

Objectives: After completing the lesson, the student will be able to: Explain the purpose of using of Camtasia. Create a basic screen recording Camtasia file.

Purpose Camtasia Studio is screen recording software that allows the user to create multi-platform video and audio recordings of anything that can be displayed or demonstrated on a computer screen, including computer labs assignments, the use of integrated development environments, PowerPoint lectures, demonstrations of Java applets, and software tutorials.

Extra Information!!! The good thing about Camtasia is that the videos that you create can be converted to Flash, Media Player, Real Player, QuickTime, streaming Flash videos, and even pod casts, which then can be made available for easy viewing on the Internet.

Screen Components Task List – The Task List provides access to recording, editing, and production options. Clip Bin – The Clip Bin holds all video, audio, and image clips imported into a project.

Screen Components cont… Preview Window – The Preview Window clips from the Clip Bin or from the Timeline and shows a preview of what the video will look like produced with the current dimensions selected. Time Line – Use the Timeline to assemble and edit the video. The Timeline represents the sequence of all clips and elements in a video.

Okay, now that you have a little more insight about Camtasia Let’s just practice a very simple record.

Follow the following steps to do a screen recording

Step 1 On the Welcome Screen or in the Task List Select Record Screen

Step 2 Once the Camtasia Recording Window appears select Full Screen from the Select Area Menu

Step 3 Select the red Record Button The software will now record all of your screen movements until you have it to stop. (Press F10 on the keyboard to stop recording)

Step 4 Preview your recording by pressing Play Play button

Step 5 After previewing you have the option to save, delete, edit, or produce your recording For now, just Save your file in a safe location and in lesson 2 you will get help on Editing your Screen Recording!!!

Your turn!!!! It’s now your turn to practice screen recording. Practice making at least three screen recording files (Remember in lesson 2 you will receive help in editing the files) Save the file so you can edit them in lesson 2
