A. Is the Earth a perfect sphere? The Earth’s true shape is an oblate spheroid It is slightly flattened at the poles and slightly bulging at the equator.

However, if drawn to scale, it looks like a perfect sphere!

4.How could you use weight (gravitational pull) to prove the Earth is squished in at the poles?? You would weigh more at the poles since you are closer to the center of the Earth. You would weigh less at the equator since you are farther from the center of the Earth.

Therefore, the altitude of Polaris = the latitude of the observer! This method of navigation can only be used in the Northern Hemisphere.

If you wanted to find Polaris tonight you would have to look towards the NORTH about half-way up in the sky (42o) since we are at latitude 42oN.
