What is Response to Intervention (RTI)? An educational approach designed to improve academic outcomes for all students by intervening early when any student shows signs that he or she is struggling. Research based interventions are provided to the student and are focused on their areas of need. The student’s response to the intervention is monitored to determine the appropriate course of action.

We assume all students can learn at high levels. As educators….. We accept responsibility to ensure high levels of learning for every student. We assume all students can learn at high levels.

Intensive Interventions RTI Three Tier Model Intensive Interventions Classroom Teacher Academic Support Teacher 5% Tier 3 Supplemental Interventions Classroom Teacher Academic Specialists Additional time and support to meet grade-level standards 15-20% Tier 2 Core Program Classroom Teacher All students have access to grade-level guaranteed viable curriculum implemented with effective teaching practices. 100% Tier 1

Tier 1 Classroom Differentiated Instruction Struggling Students Classroom Teacher Effective Teaching Practices Differentiated Instruction Monitor Progress Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved Student consistently struggles with classwork and assessments. Teacher inputs student information into eSPED Tier 1.

Tier 1 Classroom Differentiated Instruction Struggling Students Classroom Teacher Effective Teaching Practices Differentiated Instruction Monitor Progress Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved High quality instruction aligned to the TEKS and implementing best teaching practices. Teacher is aware and addresses learning needs for ELL, 504 and SE students. Teacher documentation has been inputted into CMS along with parent contact made and a summary of discussion. Watson/ Krueger /NISD 8/2006

Tier 1 Classroom Differentiated Instruction Struggling Students Classroom Teacher Effective Teaching Practices Differentiated Instruction Monitor Progress Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved DI to meet the needs of all learners Each teacher provides a variety of tutor/reteach times. Classroom intervention- extended time, copy of teacher notes, small group instruction, flexible grouping, etc.

Tier 1 Classroom Differentiated Instruction Struggling Students Classroom Teacher Effective Teaching Practices Differentiated Instruction Monitor Progress Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved Document all student interventions and monitor improvements to see growth in student Timeline for improvement – 6 weeks Keep communication open with parent at all times, document in CMS Student will remain at Tier 1 if the intervention is working. This will look different based on student needs. Watson/ Krueger /NISD 8/2006

Tier 2 Teacher Team Interventions Student did not make progress at Tier 1 Teacher inputs concerns into Harlan Intervention Radar Campus RTI Team Could consist of: Teachers Administrator Academic Dean Dept. Coordinator Student Success Advisor(s) Specialist Counselor Intervention(s) developed Progress Monitoring and Follow-Up Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved

Tier 3 School Wide Interventions Student did not make progress at Tier 2 Tier 2 Follow Up meeting is held Campus RTI Team Could consist of: Teachers Administrator Academic Dean Dept. Coordinator Student Success Advisor(s) Counselor Specialist Nurse LSSP with consent Parents Intensive Intervention(s) Intense remediation in universal skills: Reading, Writing, Number Sense, English Language, Attendance, Behavior Progress Monitoring and Follow-Up Communication with Parents Process remains at this tier if concern is resolved

Referral Community or Special Education Student did not make progress at Tier 3 Campus RTI Team with Parents Referral to Community Agency and/or Special Education Eligibility Assessment
