FUTURE WORK AND STRUCTURE, Commission for Instruments and Methods of Observation Fourteenth Session Geneva, 7 – 14 December 2006 FUTURE WORK AND STRUCTURE, Agenda Item 10 Ray P. Canterford Acting President of CIMO 16/01/2019

FUTURE WORK AND STRUCTURE OF THE COMMISSION-Doc 10 CIMO XIII, 2002, established a working structure based on 3 OPAGS and 3 ETs per OPAG OPAGS on UA, Surface and Capacity Building The Management Group reviewed this in Bucharest, 2005 Each OPAG had 2 or three co-chairs. MG concluded the structure was responsive. Need to endorse the MG proposal of a CIMO Coordinator for – GEOSS, DPM, Cross Programme and QMF As climate is cross cutting, the MG recommends a Rapporteur on climate observations in the OPAG CB Also Rapporteurs on CIMO Guide, Training and Regional implementation 16/01/2019

Structure adopted at CIMO-XIII The president and the CIMO-MG members considered that the new working structure had indeed been very successful, with a large number of tasks being undertaken by a greater number of experts assigned to the expert teams. In future, A new Rapporteur on Climate Observations should be assigned to coordinate the important CIMO input to the climate activities. It is proposed to be within the Capacity Building OPAG, as it cuts across both the surface measurement and upper air measurement OPAGS. In addition, a CIMO Coordinator on Quality Management Framework (QMF) would be included in the CIMO-MG in the new intersessional period (along with the GEOSS and NDPM coordinators). The proposed slightly modified structure is detailed in agenda Item 10. 16/01/2019

Management Group - July 2006 Proposed General Structure 16/01/2019
