In 2010, Indiana had * the highest increase in the number of students taking AP exams in the country (28.9% of 2010 graduates took at least one AP exam – an increase of 8.3% over 2009)! Including: 44% increase among African American students 33% increase among Hispanic students

The number of exam grades from 3-5 in Indiana increased in one year by 11.4% compared to 7.9% national growth (2010 exams). Indiana students took 10,851 more exams in 2010 than they took in 2009.

Starting with the 2011 AP exams, students who earn a score of 3 or higher shall receive college credit toward their degree at any Indiana public institution of higher education; this includes all two and four year schools and all regional campuses.

Under this law, Indiana can expect an additional 10,000 AP qualifying exam scores of 3 earned by thousands of students to receive around 44,000 college credit hours. The college savings for students and parents will be significant.

Indiana public institutions of higher education may require a score higher than 3 to award credit for a course that is part of a students major but the student will still receive elective credit that counts toward their overall degree requirements. Indiana public institutions of higher education will fully articulate how each AP course and exam score will distribute within and outside of major fields by March, 2011.
