A form of writing that tells a story. Fiction is made up, not true. There are several different types of fiction, including:
Plot development.
Literary Elements. Plot: the sequence of events in a story.
OAA Vocabulary!. Warm-Up 8,  Figurative Language: Language enriched by word images and figures of speech.  First Person Narrative: Narration.
PRESENTING.... LITERATURE NOTES Literature is writings in prose or verse, having excellence of expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal.
Literary Terms.  Fiction: A type of writing based on imagination.  Non-Fiction: A type of writing that is based on facts.
Genre Genre is the type or category of a book, such as mysteries, adventure, science fiction, fantasy and more. Where do you see Genre? – Books – Music.

Genre A category of literary work Short Story – Science Fiction Movies can fall into genres

Foreshadowing Giving hints of what is to come later in the story As we read “The Veldt”, look for clues from the nursery that show what may happen in the end.

Theme What does Bradbury want us to learn or gain from reading his story. Pay attention to the use of technology and the outcome of relying too heavily on technology.

Allusion A reference in literature to something that is well-known. This does not indicate that the story is about that reference, it just simply jogs the reader’s memory with that idea. The children’s names are Wendy and Peter. Peter Pan

Setting PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE SETTING! Be able to describe the house and the nursery. What is so special about both? How does this contribute to the genre of science-fiction?
