Integrated Math Curriculum Night 2018

College Preparatory Math (CPM) College Preparatory Math (CPM) is built on best practices Students engage with Standards for Mathematical Practices daily Prepares students to read, communicate, and solve problems mathematically Provides extended exposure to topics Includes topics missing in our former program

What Does Math Class Look Like? A typical day includes: Homework discussion Teachers launch the lesson Students work together on core problems designed to illustrate concepts and connections Teachers provide individual and small group instruction Whole-class and teacher discuss new concepts and connections learned

What’s Different - Homework Homework includes new and review content: Practice on new content is spread out over several homework assignments Increases opportunities for students to have feedback on understanding and performance Gives practice over multiple days instead of only once Older content needed for new concepts is revisited before new concept is presented Older content is kept ‘alive’ for future use

What’s Different – Unit Tests Unit tests include a mix of current and previous concepts: Students have time to practice new concepts before being assessed First half of the current chapter assessed on the test Second half of the current chapter assessed on the next test – gives students needed practice time with new content Older content included on subsequent tests to give students multiple opportunities to demonstrate understanding

What’s Different – Team Performance Tasks Team Performance Tasks (TPT) are like test reviews: Completed a few days before a unit test. Students work together on tasks that are often more challenging than those on the test. Helps students identify areas for growth and practice those skills before the test Reinforces problem-solving strategies

Student Resources College Preparatory Math – Integrated Math offers several online resources for students: Online textbook Full textbook online Homework Help Hints to help students with questions Shows solutions for selected questions Online Parent Guide Summarizes concepts Shows example problems Provides extra practice
