Verb phrases that express actions in progress are called progressive forms. The progressive is not a separate tense. It is considered an additional form of each of the six tenses we have learned so far (past, present, future, past perfect, present perfect, future perfect). The progressive form is made up of a form of be and the present participle. The helping verb shows the tense.

Please write these down: Present Progressive: We are (present) studying Past Progressive: We were (past) studying Future Progressive: We will be (future) studying Present Perfect Progressive: We have (present) been studying Past Perfect Progressive: We had (past) been studying Future Perfect Progressive: We will have (future) been studying
