Progressive tenses of verbs are identified by their tense names plus the word progressive. Show that an action is or was happening for a period of time. All of these progressive tenses end in –ing.

Mrs. Edwards was pleased with her students who had been reading their assignment.

11 Principal Parts of Verbs
Every verb has four principal parts: present, present participle, past, and past participle. Examples: wait Present: wait Present participle: (is) waiting Past: waited Past Participle: (had, have)waited

13 Continued… With regular verbs, create the past and past participle by adding –d or –ed to the present form. Example: organize Past: organized Past Participle: (has) organized
