Call Numbers and what they mean FIC is fiction. These are chapter books that are made up stories. ROY is the first three letters of the author’s last name. So to find this book, you would look in the Rs in Fiction. The numbers at the beginning of this call # tell us this is a non-fiction book. These are arranged based on the Dewey Decimal System. The McC are the first three letters of the author’s last name. This is a way to sort books that are the same category even further on the shelf. E is for Everyone books. Placing a Hold By placing a hold you are ensuring that when a book is returned, it will be held behind the desk for you instead of being re-shelved as normal. A hold should only be placed on books that are checked out. You cannot place a hold on books that are currently in the library. Click on the book below that you could place on hold.

How do I know when my hold is ready? Placing a Hold Click on the blue title How do I know when my hold is ready? Click on the Hold It button Click Save You will see this at the top of your screen.

Here you can see your holds Holds Status: Ready – the book is behind the desk in the library, just come in and ask for it. Pending – hold has been placed but the book is still checked out. Using a Call Slip After you have found a book in Destiny that you want to check out, you will get a call slip from your teacher. Neatly write the title of the book on these lines. Write the call # from Destiny on this line. This is important as it will allow Mrs. Acker to help you find the book quickly! Circle one of these sections so you know where to start looking when you arrive at the library. The call # should help you figure this out. Have you teacher fill out this section so Mrs. Acker knows how much time you are allowed in the library. What are Call #s? Back to Destiny Page

Sequoyah Book Award If you want to participate in the Sequoyah voting but don’t want to complete the Reading Challenge Passport, you can just read three books and follow this instructions. This will be sent to Mrs. DeRose so she will know you have read the book. When it comes time for Sequoyah voting, the students who have completed three forms or the Reading Passport will be able to vote. Back to Destiny Page
