Reflexive Verbs

Reflexive Verb: verb in which someone does something to themselves. Ejemplo: He washes his face. I brush my hair. Reflexive Verb

A reflexive verb must always have a “reflexive pronoun” with it. Important

Reflexive Pronouns Me (myself) Nos (ourselves) Te (yourself) Os(yourselves) Se (himself, herself, yourself) Se (yourselves, their selves)

Pronoun Placement If the reflexive verb has been conjugated, the reflexive pronoun must go before the reflexive verb. Example: Me cepillo el pelo. (I brush my hair.) reflexive pronoun conjugated verb

Reflexive Verb Examples Me lavo. (I wash myself.) Te cepillas el pelo. (You brush your hair.) Reflexive Verb Examples

To make it negative... simply put a “no” before the reflexive pronoun. Ejemplo: Me lavo. (I wash myself.) No me lavo. (I don’t wash myself.)

Body Parts & Clothing When using a reflexive verb with a body part or article of clothing, you must always use the definite article (el, la, los, las) before the body part or clothing. Ejemplos: Me lavo la cara. (I wash my face.) Me pongo la chaqueta. (I put on a jacket.)

Reflexive Infinitives When you are going to use a reflexive verb in it’s infinitive form (unconjugated) you can have the reflexive pronoun attached to the end of the infinitive, or before the conjugated verb.

Reflexive Infinitive Examples The reflexive pronoun will be added to the end of the infinitive to make one word. Ella va a sentarse (She’s going to sit down) Yo voy a mirarme (I’m going to look at myself) Tú vas a mirarte (You’re going to look at yourself infinitive reflexive pronoun

Reflexive Infinitive Examples The reflexive pronoun will be added to the end of the infinitive to make one word. Ella se va a sentar (She’s going to sit down) Yo me voy a mirar (I’m going to look at myself) Tú te vas a mirar (You’re going to look at yourself) infinitive reflexive pronoun
