Presentation transcript:

Biodiversity is the number and variety of organisms in a given area.

There are 3 aspects of biodiversity. Genetic Variation Species Diversity Ecosystem Diversity

Genetic variation lets organisms adapt Genetic variation lets organisms adapt. There is a variation in an organism’s genes (DNA). Ex: eye color, height

Species diversity refers to the number of organisms in one place. Ecosystem diversity is a variety of habitats.

Biodiversity is important for several reasons: Maintaining a balanced nature Source of food Source of medicine Clean air Tourism Clean drinking water Helps keep organisms from becoming extinct

Diversity impacts the medical industry because it provides new avenues for research. Many plants are used to make medicines.

You are mostly impacted by biodiversity in your daily life by the food that you eat. You eat a variety of plants and animals.

An exotic species often thrives in its new environment because it is free from the predators in its native habitat.

Rainforests have the greatest amount of biodiversity Rainforests have the greatest amount of biodiversity. This is a super important fact. Learn it!

Picture A represents biodiversity better because there is more of a variety of species present. Picture A Picture B
