Before The Peloponnesian War Sparta became suspicious of Athens and their riches Sparta, with the help of some other city-states, attacked and began the war Pericles’s funeral oration reminded Athenians about democracy and gave them courage to continue fighting Obey rules Pay taxes Defend the city Run for office Power of democracy

Before Athenians outside the city walls moved inside the walls for protections In the 2nd year, disease broke out and killed more than 1/3 of the Athenians inside, including Pericles Sparta made a deal with Persians and built a navy The new Spartan navy defeated the Athenian navy
