UNSPORTSMANLIKE FOUL Not about intensity, emotions, or severity of contact Nothing to get amped up about

Definition Is a player contact foul, during “playing time”, which, in the judgement of the official, is not a legitimate attempt to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules.

Judgement Guidelines Judge the actions, not intent or the result Contact with no attempt to play the ball Excessive contact while playing the ball Excessive contact away from the ball Time of the game is irrelevant

Preventing a Breakaway Defensive foul to stop a fast break Contacting an opponent from behind or laterally before contacting the ball, during an attempt to play the ball No opponent between the offensive player and the basket Once the act of shooting begins, contact must be judged as any other shooting foul

Unsportsmanlike Foul Penalty Recorded as a player foul and Team foul Free throws awarded to the player that was fouled Not in the act of shooting – 2 In the act of shooting and good basket – 1 In the act of shooting and no basket – 2 or 3 Opponents are awarded a throw in at the centre line extended with a new shot clock A player shall be disqualified if they receive 2
