Building, Maintaining, And Nurturing Good Relationships Review Of the “One Another” Passages

The Gospels Matthew 24:10 "And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" Mark 9:50 "Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another." Luke 2:15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."

Luke 6:11 But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus. Luke 7:32 "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: 'We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not weep.' Luke 8:25 But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!" Luke 12:1 In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Luke 24:17 And He said to them, "What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?"

Luke 24:32 And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" John 4:33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?" John 5:44 "How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? John 13:14 "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

John 13:22 Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke. John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 15:12 "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:17 "These things I command you, that you love one another.

In Acts Acts 2:7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? Acts 2:12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "Whatever could this mean?" Acts 7:26 "And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, 'Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?' Acts 15:39 Then the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus; Acts 19:38 "Therefore, if Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a case against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. Acts 21:6 When we had taken our leave of one another, we boarded the ship, and they returned home. Acts 28:4 So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live."

Romans Romans 1:27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. Romans 12:5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 14:13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way. Romans 15:5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, Romans 15:7 Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. Romans 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Romans 16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you.

1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians 6:7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? 1 Corinthians 7:5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 1 Corinthians 11:33 Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 1 Corinthians 12:25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 1 Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

2 Corinthians -- Galatians 2 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! Galatians 5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Ephesians Ephesians 4:2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another. Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, Ephesians 5:21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

Colossians Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1 Thessalonians 3:12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, 1 Thessalonians 4:9 But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; 1 Thessalonians 4:18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Titus -- Hebrews Titus 3:3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. Hebrews 3:13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

James James 4:11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. James 5:9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

1 Peter 1 Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 1 Peter 3:8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

1 John 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 3:11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

2 John -- Revelation 2 John 1:5 And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another. Revelation 11:10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

Conclusion Naturally, the context will shed more light on what each of these means in each particular passage. What we need to focus upon is the fact that many of these are commands and not suggestions. Are you doing your part to improve your relationships? Especially in the church.
