Mixtures What is a mixture? A mixture is a combination of 2 different types of elements or compounds that keep their special characteristics. Mixtures can be physically separated. Mixtures can be from solids, liquids, or gases Solutions are a type of mixture.

Mixtures …two elements or compounds. Two elements can create a mixture. Two compounds can create a mixture. An element and a compound can create a mixture.

Separation There are a few ways to separate a the parts of a mixture. Filter out one part. (straining mac and cheese) Heat it so one part evaporates. (heat salt water until the water evaporates.) Use a magnet to remove part. (tooth fillings) Cool it so one part condenses. (water pulled out from the air onto a cold glass)

Solutions Many mixtures can be unevenly mixed. Solutions are mixtures that are evenly mixed.

Solution or just a Mixture? Compounds Solids Are they evenly mixed?
