2 MIXTURES

3 MIXTURES Mixtures are made of two or more substances– elements, compounds, or both…NOT CHEMICALLY COMBINED!

4 Mixtures vs. Compounds Its components are easily separated.
In a mixture each of the substances can be separated from the group in different physical ways Filtration, Magnetic Attraction, Distilling, Evaporation Each substance in a mixture keeps its individual properties The parts of a mixture are not combined in a set ratio They are substances held together by physical forces, not chemical

5 MIXTURES- Examples What can you think of?

6 TYPES OF MIXTURES Heterogeneous Mixture- a mixture in which substances are unevenly distributed throughout the mixture (You can see the different parts)

7 A solution is an example of a homogenous mixture.
Homogenous Mixture- a mixture in which substances are evenly distributed throughout the mixture (Looks the same throughout) A solution is an example of a homogenous mixture. Sugar + water Air= nitrogen, oxygen, and a few other gasses Brass= zinc + copper
