Cougar News November 2011 Your Library Media Center We are bringing closure to our First Nine Weeks of this school year, and exciting things are taking the Library! New books are being processed to go on the book shelves. School Libraries do not get money from Gaston County to purchase books. We are grateful to have been awarded a grant from The James E. and Mildred Waggoner Family Foundation. Computers for Education Project has been a HUGE success! Thanks Costner Families for supporting this Project. It takes about seven weeks for everything to process. Look for dollars earned in our next newsletter! Our Fall Book Fair has gotten off to a good start with Trunk R Treat on Friday, October 28. The Fair is being held in the Library Media Center through Friday, November 4...closing at 10:00 A.M. sharp. BUT parents can visit the Costner Elementary School Book Fair through next week. Our Fair earns profits when you purchase! Books make great gifts, and Christmas is coming soon! Read Every Day. Lead a Better Life. Students in grades K-2 will have the opportunity to invite guests for our Christmas lunch Wednesday, December 14 th. No student dismissal AFTER 2pm

Parents of 5 th Grade The end of the year will be here in no time for 5 th grade students. Yearbook dedication page information has been sent home with your students. The Yearbook Committee would like to offer parents or family members a chance to dedicate a page to their 5 th grader. All pages will be in color. You will need to purchase pages and turn in information and pictures by Wednesday, November 30 th. No pages can be purchased after Friday, December 9 th because we have to finalize the number of pages in the yearbook at this time. Proceeds from dedication pages will be used to help our school provide an excellent and reasonably priced yearbook for all students to enjoy. If you have any questions you may contact Mrs. Hodge at school.. Donut Sale Friday, November 18 th donuts will be for sale in our car rider line. The cost of a box of donuts is $6.00. Please be careful and patient as you move through our line. Exact change is appreciated, and we thank you for your support! Daylight Savings Time Ends Sunday, November 6 th daylight savings time will end. Turn your clocks back 1 hour on this day. Treats for Teachers The Costner Staff would like to thank all of our parents that participated in the October Treats for Teachers. Your time, generosity and fantastic treats are very much appreciated. Thank you for all that you do for us! One Stop and Shop Mrs. Dellinger is hosting a One Stop and Shop day here at Costner, Saturday, November 12 th. This will be an easy way to get some early Christmas shopping done! Drop in from 9am til 1pm. Consultants from Pampered Chef, Avon, Mary Kay, Premier Jewelry, Tupperware, 31, Sensy, and Tastefully Simple will be set up! No pressure! No shows to attend! 4 th Grade News Wow! What a great start to a year!! We want to first thank everyone for your participation in our Chicken Coop Poop Fundraiser. Congrats to Carlie Huggins on her win!! Fourth grade will be going to Raleigh on March 1st, Deposits of $25 are due no later than November 18th. We are also beginning our first project with Social Studies. This culminating activity reviews the three regions of North Carolina and what they were like for the early settlers. In Science, we are starting our Animal Habitats unit. Students are really excited about dissecting frogs and seeing how this animal's features are significant for survival in their habitat. Parents, please continue to review the basic multiplication facts with your students. We will be starting long division soon and knowing these facts is important for success! Again, thanks for your support! Operation Christmas Child Thanks everyone who participated in helping second grade raise money for Operation Christmas Child. We have raised $ Thanks especially to all the parents who took time out of their day to come and help sell candy daily and for the parents who donated all the candy supplies. The fund raiser wouldn't have been a success without your help. Don't forget Nov. 10th we are having a shoebox packing party in each classroom to finish up the Social Studies project.
