Purpose Statement To create a program that is fair and consistent, encourages team building, motivates employees and ensures the understanding of safety culture through focusing on leading indicators and prevention of injuries.

Current State Individual vs group Negative effect on morale Administration Confusing Time Frame Small window of opportunity to take Doesn’t change behaviors regarding safety Causes suppression of reporting Inside vs. Outside Different risks

Future State Recognize leading indicators Prevention of injuries through activities Increase positive morale Driving individual accountability for your own safety Based on individual point system Encourage Team Building and Community Outreach

Implementation It is not tied to your birthday! Process is based on a calendar year (January 1st – December 31st) 2017 Safety Day Under the current system 2018 Safety Day Since this is a new system, 2018 will be a reset year. Everyone will get their Safety Day. In 2018, you will begin earning points for the calendar year 2019 and every year following. 2019 Safety Day and subsequent years New System

Process to Earn Safety Day 5 total points are needed to earn your Safety Day. Points will be issued by activity. Points can be earned by a combination of any approved activities (see list). Ensure that when you attend the event, you sign the roster. It can be taken within any qualifying year. It will be scheduled as per normal time-off policy. If you identify a hazard for your points, you will need to fill out the Hazard Report and follow normal protocol. If you watch a video for your points, you will be issued a log in and will receive a certificate of completion. JT&S website: www.tnjts.com – this will be a short cut. BONUS*BONUS*BONUS *There will be special recognition for the district with the highest % of points per person. Each person in the winning district will receive $50 cash.
