What evidence is required? Four steps to a successful Athena SWAN award Collect Data: understand the current state at ANU Analyse Data: understand what contributes to gender equity at ANU Plan actions based on data analysis Monitor progress To achieve the Athena SWAN Bronze award we must: Collect data to understand the current state at ANU Analyse the data to understand what contributes to gender equity at ANU Plan actions based on data analysis And show how we will monitor this progress

What evidence is required? Letter of endorsement from the Vice-Chancellor Description of the institution Self assessment process A picture of the institution Supporting and advancing women’s careers Supporting transgender people Intersectionality Indigenous Australians Further information Action plan The application is split into 10 main categories

How do we demonstrate progress toward gender equity? This is a matrix overview of what ANU must demonstrate to achieve the Athena SWAN Bronze award

Leadership and Commitment How do we demonstrate progress toward gender equity? Leadership and Commitment The first is leadership and commitment: How does the institution show staff its commitment to improving gender equity? What resources have been provided to fully investigate the factors contributing to gender inequity in STEMM? What resources have been committed to the implementation and monitoring of the action plan? Honesty and self-reflection Next is honesty and self-reflection: Where are the most concerning gender inequities at ANU? What successful policies/initiatives does the institution have in place to address gender inequities? How are the institution's structures, systems, and/or culture contributing to gender inequity? Do the actions suggested have a realistic chance of being implemented and of having a positive impact in terms of addressing gender inequity?

Communication and engagement How do we demonstrate progress toward gender equity? Communication and engagement Communication and engagment How are staff informed about and engaged in improving gender equity in the institution? How is feedback from a diverse range of staff sought on institutional structures, systems, and culture with reference to gender equity? How will staff be informed of and consulted on planned actions and the implementation of the action plan?

Data analysis and discussion How do we demonstrate progress toward gender equity? Data analysis and discussion Data analysis and discussion: What do the data suggest about the current state of gender equity? According to the data, how might the structures, systems, and/or culture within the institution contribute to gender inequity? How will data collection and analysis over the next 4 years provide evidence of the impact of actions in gender inequity?

Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-bound SMART Actions How do we demonstrate progress toward gender equity? SMART Actions Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-bound And finally and most importantly, SMART actions: What actions has the institution taken to date to investigate/improve gender equity? What actions need to be taken to more fully understand the contribution of the institution's structures, systems, and culture to gender inequity? What actions will the institution take over the next 4 years to address gender inequity?
