El futuro inmediato When? How? Examples Practice

The near future is used for… When? The near future is used for… To talk about what you are going to do in the future Examples in English: This weekend I am going to play football with my friends. This evening my friends are going to go to the cinema. James is going to eat in a Mexican restaurant.

To form the near future in Spanish you follow 3 steps… 1.- Use the present tense of “ir” : How? I You (sing) He She We You (pl) They Yo Tú Él Ella Nosotros Vosotros Ellos Voy Vas Va Vamos Váis Van 2.- Then “a” For example ir to go bailar to dance salir to go out visitar to visit comer to eat jugar to play 3.- Followed by an infinitive. (-ar,-er, -ir) (check slide 7 if you want to know what an Infinitive is)

Now have a go at putting the following verbs into the correct form of the near future tense. Show how you work it out. X Salt- + amos = saltamos I am going to dance I am going to eat I am going to chat I am going to do He is going to listen We are going to go They are going to have Voy a bailar Voy a comer Voy a chatear Voy a hacer Va a escuchar Vamos a ir Van a tener X

What are the three steps to making a verb in the near future tense? Use the present tense of the verb “ir” 2.- Then add “a” 3.- Followed by an infinitive

You (sing) are going to go out Practice 1.- Voy Vas Va Vamos Váis Van 2.- a 3.- Infinitive You (sing) are going to go out Vas a salir We are going to speak I am going to live Vamos a hablar Voy a vivir they are going to eat He is going to play Van a comer Va a jugar

What is an infinitive? If you look up a verb (doing word) in the dictionary it will give you the infinitive. It is the basic form of the verb before it has been conjugated. In Spanish it will either end in AR, IR or ER. In English it is a verb with ‘to’ in front of it, for example: to sing, to play, to run, to dance, to eat, to live
