1 Present tense –AR verb conjugaions
Verbs have two forms, infinitives [in English the to form (to study)] and the conjugated form that shows who or what does the action.

2 Infinitive: I want to study now.
Quiero estudiar ahora. Conjugated: Ana studies Ana estudia

3 In English we use the pronouns I, you, he, she, it, we and they to show who is doing the action. In Spanish, the endings of the conjugated verb forms show who is doing the action.

4 To conjugate a verb whose infinitive ends in –AR [mirar, hablar, etc],
1) drop the –ar and 2) add the following endings:

5 I (yo) -o we (nosotros) -amos
You (tú) -as you (vosotros -áis in Spain) He (él) they (ellos) She (ella) -a they (ellas) -an You (Ud) you (Uds)

6 Hablo can only mean I speak
Hablas can only mean you speak Hablamos can only mean we speak

7 BUT, for example: Habla has several meanings : he speaks she speaks you [Ud] speak

8 Therefore, if the subject is not known, you must indicate who is doing the action:
Él habla he speaks Luís habla Luís speaks Ella habla she speaks

9 Mi amigo habla My friend speaks El Señor Ramos habla Señor Ramos speaks Ud habla you speak
