WEEK FOUR - PLANNING

What is it? Your Design Document (DD) must consist of three sections: Concept Paper Design Document Product Proposal Each section should demonstrate a clearly defined vision for the product and an understanding of the market and audience for this product. Where relevant, you should provide examples of similar products in your chosen genre.

CONCEPT PAPER The concept paper is a general overview of the project, its direction and key details. It should set out your general intentions for the game.

Introduction (include the title, genre, theme, setting, unique elements)

Background (outline other relevant products, such as films based on the intellectual property, licenses, sequels, influences of similar games)

Description (describe the product as if to an audience, using general terms: what will they do, how they will play – define the user experience)

Key features (the unique features that set this product apart from others)

Genre (describe the genre and feel, using key words and examples of other games, e.g. “Speedball 2 is a futuristic cyberpunk sports game - a brutal mix of handball and ice hockey placed at break-neck pace.”)

DESIGN DOCUMENT The design document provides specific details of key product elements.

Story (detail the story, setting and goal of the game)

Characters and Enemies (describe key characters and enemies; provide illustrative art work – this can be sourced online but must adhere to copyright law)

Gameplay (objectives; explain rules; character abilities; weapons; power-ups; upgrades; obstacles; enemy behaviour)

Art Direction (include sample art, screen mock-ups)

Sound (explain the feel of the sound, using examples from other intellectual property where relevant)

Market Analysis Who is your target audience? (age range, gender, interests, lifestyle) What games are like yours and find when they were released? What resources do you need? Develop a schedule so you can meet the delivery time

WEEK 5 - Production In this section you need to document how you are accomplishing your product

WEEK 6 - Production In this section you need to document how you are accomplishing your product

WEEK 7 - Production In this section you need to document how you are accomplishing your product

WEEK 8 – POST PRODUCTION YOU WILL USE THIS SECTION TO SHOW HOW YOU ARE PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES TO YOUR WORK.

WEEK 9 – POST PRODUCTION YOU WILL USE THIS SECTION TO SHOW HOW YOU ARE PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES TO YOUR WORK.

WEEK 10 EVALUATION AND FINAL DELIVERY Evaluation is a minimum of 500 words. Here are some questions to help you: What did you do? How did you do it? What are the skills you have used? What is the purpose of this skill set?  What worked with the piece? What did not work with the piece? What would you do differently? What did you learn from the activity?

DOCUMENTS TO HELP YOU

HOW TO BUILD A RESEARCH PLAN! Looking at your product, think what do I need to research to help develop and create a strong piece? Then list everything you will need to research and that includes location. Now you have your method, what technique will you use to help you? Qualitative, you could interview someone who has experience with your enquiry. What do I need to research? What method am I going to use? What technique will I use? How will this research help me with my product? Click or tap here to enter text.   Will you use Primary, Secondary, Quantitative or Quantitative to help you find the solution? Here you need to reflect on what you have planned and think how will this actually help me?
