CELEBRATE OUR PLANET WITH A WEEK OF THEMED ACTION DAYS    Our precious planet requires care and attention and deliberate decision-making that reduces human impacts to implement sustainable living practices. Earth Week Activity Guide (includes school announcements): https://www.greenschoolsns.ca/sites/default/files/earth_week_activities_0.pdf

LIGHTS OUT FOR THE EARTH Open the blinds Use natural light Turn off unnecessary lights Simple actions can have a big impact, especially when the whole school community participates. Try hosting a competition to motivate different classrooms. Enlist Green Spies to do Classroom Checks to see when lights are turned off and reward the classrooms that reduce the most energy waste. Classroom Checks Support Package: https://www.greenschoolsns.ca/sites/default/files/spk_classroomchecks_fn.pdf

SWEATER OR PJ DAY Turn down the heat 2 degrees Stay cozy in your favourite sweater or pajamas When the weather is cold, we need to dress appropriately. Save energy by turning down the heat and turning up the fun with crazy sweater themes!

LITTERLESS LUNCH Bring a lunch without any packaging Avoid food waste Lunches that do not send waste to the landfill are known as Litterless Lunches. Packaging is waste that is produced for a single purpose: to go to the landfill. Plastic often ends up in the ocean by travelling through the wind or water. When we buy less packaged food, we save energy and help the Earth.

GET OUTSIDE & EARTH DAY PLEDGE Spend at least 30 minutes outside Promise to make a change to help the Earth Enjoy fresh air and exercise outdoors, no matter the weather! Dress appropriately for the weather and get creative with games, performances, sports, and more! Pledge to make choices that reduce human impacts.

WEAR GREEN & POWER DOWN Wear green for the Earth Shut off electronics on Friday to stop phantom power Celebrate our home planet by wearing green (or maybe you will choose to all wear BLUE for the ocean!) Reduce phantom power by ending the week with a tour of the school to shut down all electronics.
